anniezz338 -> Christmas shopping....UGH (12/11/2010 3:01:32 AM)

Ok, I'm not a big shopper....so Christmas shopping can be almost punishing. Anyone feel the same?...lol

I was going to give donations to the SPCA in everyone's name but my mom wants something for under tree (maybe I should get her a dog...hehe).

I'll do both but does anyone have one of those digital picture frames? How do you like it? I've heard some can get pricey. Thanks :)

YoungBlondeSlave -> RE: Christmas shopping....UGH (12/11/2010 3:11:18 AM)

My Uncle got one for my Grandma on her 90th Birthday. She loves it.

Christmas shopping is the worst, I've been looking online and found that Overstock.com has some amazing stuff right now, they have a section called "Worldstock Fair Trade" with some awesome things. I'm going to get some gifts there.

I'm stuck on what to get my Mom this year, too. She's completely uninterested in Christmas because right now she's focusing on chemotherapy which she's just finishing up and radiation which is upcoming. Everyone else I think I've pretty much gotten at least an idea of what they want.

Also, my family does a lot of charity donations in lieu of gifts, too. Doctors Without Borders, Make a Wish...whatever is near and dear to the heart of any particular family member. If nothing else, gift cards work. One year, I wrote handwritten letters to people, they really liked that too.

Sorry to hear that YoungBlondSlave. I went through that with my mom about 17 years ago. She can run circles around me now. Stay positive :)

Yes, I like Overstock.com also. I maybe should have started earlier. My family is a bugger to shop for. They have everything they need and want.

soul2share -> RE: Christmas shopping....UGH (12/11/2010 3:31:47 AM)

I'm not a huge shopper as it is, and this time of year is the worst!  I love gift cards....they are so much easier for everyone involved, especially if you're buying for kids....no worries about whather or not the stuff fits or if it's something they want, or worse, if someone already gave it to them!  I found that my nieces and nephews loved to do their own shopping.

Online shopping is the only way to go.....pretty every shopping site has their own gift cards, too.  I LOVE overstock.com!

Annie, I haven't priced those picture frames, but I'm sure they are like anything else these days as far as gadgets go...you can find them in any price range.  I know Wal-mart has a pretty wide selection of them, and this is probably a good time to get them, since retailers want your business.  One thing to think of, most stores these days have price matching guarantees, so if you find it cheaper someplace else after you buy, if you take your receipt and the ad back, they will refund the difference.  Or you can pay that price when you buy with the same ad in hand.  It just has to be the exact match on the product.

anniezz338 -> RE: Christmas shopping....UGH (12/11/2010 3:48:25 AM)

Good ideas soul2share. Wal-Mart will be the first place to stop at. They carry a pretty good selection of brands and why pay more when you don't have to...right?

One thing set in stone is it will all be done in one day on a weekday. And I'll keep this weeks ads. I usually throw them away because I am not a shopper.

Annie, if you have a 24 hour Wal-Mart, it's even better!  I do ALL of my shopping at 3am, not just the Christmas stuff.....the only hazard at 3am is the boxes in the aisle to navigate around....no screaming kids, long lines, those motorized carts......I love it!  I can take my time and shop at my leisure....I hate crowds, and tend to just whiz thru and inevitably, I forget what I went there for in the first place!  Damn CRS!

Have you ever used the gift card mall at Safeway? One year I think I did all my shopping just there. There's a collection of dozens of different kinds of gift cards and just threw them in the cart. In about 30 minutes I was done: Best Buy, iTunes, Macy's, Starbucks, Subway, Babies R' Us...

Safeway still exists???

I had no idea that would come as a surprise to anyone but yes. Here in California, anyway.

kalikshama -> RE: Christmas shopping....UGH (12/11/2010 4:53:45 AM)

I had lots of fun with the digital photos frames a few years ago. Got thousands of pics of my nephews from my sister and condensed them into a few hundred for a slideshow for my parents. At that time, I needed to get an adapter so the memory stick would go into my computer, but the manufacturers may have made this easier now.

I generally shop at Amazon. I feel they charge too much for gift wrapping, but that's my only complaint. No malls for me (shudder).

I'm going to bake for my coworkers. I made carrot cake this week, and am making apple cake next week, so maybe German Chocolate Cake. (I prefer recipes that involve a 9 x 13" pan. Cookies are too much work!)

Yes, I watch EastEnders on it.

Edited: Humm is EastEnders one word with a middle capital letter?

barelynangel -> RE: Christmas shopping....UGH (12/11/2010 5:24:04 AM)

I got a digital picture frame for my boss on sale for 59.99 down from 79.99 at best buy that has 1GB or 2GB can't remember and its WAYYYY over there (points across my living room) and i am too lazy to get up lol..  You need to be careful with them because some of them come with very little memory and you then have to buy a memory card or a traveling usb thingy.   So you should take that into consideration when purchasing them.  You find what you want online first and then just go get it.  Also, some stores have different online sales and prices than they do in the store, that's how i got it for 59.99, it was onsale online at bestbuy and they honor those prices .  I actually ended up getting it for 49.99 because I have $10 in reward money also.  Walmart has some on sale that they are including the memory cards with for some decent prices online but they aren't being sold in the store -- some you can have shipped to the home for free.

Also, you may want to make sure they have timers on them or i think they have the sensing ones that turn on when someone is in the room or something.

I would seriously read reviews and look online first to see what prices you can come up with and then call the stores before you go to see if they honor their online prices before you make a trech to a store -- since you don't like shopping.

good luck, i have one thing left to buy and its Fannie Mae chocolate so i am buying it online to be shipped up North.    Oh and the chocolate and candy for the office goodie bags i make every year.

We do not have Safeways anymore either....but about 25 yrs ago, I won a trip to Vail, Colorado from our local one. It was a great trip.

I live about 6 blocks from a VERY popular mall and tons of stip centers around it. It gets really crazy during the holidays. Great ideas everyone :) I'm thinking Ross's too.... We've got a pretty good one here, with lots of different items.

anniezz338 -> RE: Christmas shopping....UGH (12/11/2010 5:36:44 AM)

Good points on that angel, I'll make sure she has what she needs to use it. That's not bad for a price range, I was thinking up to about $60 -80 bucks would hopefully get something decent.

kalikshama, good ideas for the office. My roommate is making about 20 jars of his homemade salsa for gifts.

And you didn't stop in and say hi to me then?

There are still plenty of Safeways in Colorado, along with Albertson's and King Soopers (shich is part of the Kroger chain).

YBS, Jaybee is from England, so their stores over there may not match up with the US ones.

barelynangel -> RE: Christmas shopping....UGH (12/11/2010 5:42:02 AM)

That price range will definitely get you something decent.  I like the insignia one because my boss is soooo not tech. inclined and i think this will be really easy for her and she doesn't have to worry about a card or such because a lot of her pics are on her daughters school website or such that they simply choose which pics they like.  So the way she gets the pics is kinda different than simply taking the cards out of the camera concept.

I hate shopping so i pretty much do it online, so i can run in and grab and go instead of browsing. I am also an impulse buyer lol so i need to be grab and go lol so i don't impulse buy.   But i have to say, it doesn't seem as crazy as it usually does or maybe in my old age i am more patient lol.   But it really doesn't seem as crowded as normal.  But its getting down to the line, so i am sure this weekend and next may be crazy.

I've thought for years I was forgetting to do something important on that trip, Steven....lol. Beautiful state.

angelikaJ -> RE: Christmas shopping....UGH (12/11/2010 5:50:37 AM)

I am a big fan of giving books to people who read of course and especially to young people.
You can give worlds with books.

Daedelus Books has my vote.

I have found some great buys at Sierra Trading Post on just about everything.

For teen girls I like shopping the clearance section at GoodGoth. (I have found nice things for me as well [;)] )

I like Christmas shopping. I like trying to find (or make) a special gift for each person without spending a lot of money.
