-FR- If you're asking if there's some secret group of shadowy mysterious people who are secretly controlling things as part of some master plan designed to affect all of humanity - well, no - there's not. If there were, I'd have to say they're doing a pretty piss-poor job of it. In all honesty, I think the "conspiracy mania" has replaced religion to many people. Rather than blaming God or the Devil for the good or evil one encounters, the new repository providing explanations for the unknown is the "conspiracy". When something inexplicable happens, THEY are responsible for it. THEY leave cryptic clues scattered about - on the dollar bill - in music videos - on the TV - that only those in the know can decipher. It's the modern equivalent of reading tea leaves, or entrails. If you asking if conspiracies occur (i.e. "an agreement by two or more persons to commit a crime, fraud, or other wrongful act") - of course, all the time. Bernie Madoff just led a conspiracy that lasted decades and controlled billions before it blew up. There was a conspiracy to control the price and supply of oil - they called it OPEC. There are two conspiracies to control the United States government - the Democratic National Committee and the Republican National Committee. The Hunt Brothers formed a conspiracy to control the price of silver in the late 1970s and another conspiracy was formed to stop them. Actual conspiracies (or whatever you'd care to call them) happen all the time. They don't involve shadowy figures leaving a trail of cryptic clues for an intrepid adventurer to follow like a computer game - they're generally formed by a batch of middle-aged men sitting in a room in an office building and talking. If you look for them, you can find them without much difficulty. You don't think that the major powers in the oil industry get together every now and then to discuss oil and what's going on in the world? I'd be amazed if they didn't. You don't think that the big money people in the Democratic Party don't sit down long before the election and discuss who they're going to back for the Presidency? Of course they do. This isn't some mysterious fantasy-land. This is real life. Of course people try and work together to get the best advantage they can. You know what? On February 4th, 1945 three powerful leaders - Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin got together in a secret location and launched a conspiracy to rule the world - today we call it the United Nations.
