Seems to me that it is more important to worry about the financial life rather than the sex life of our servicemen. John Walker sold far more damaging secrets for far longer simply for the money.

The media isn't spending much time on his sexual orientation because it has no bearing on his behavior in this case.

Being a gay soldier under the DADT rules wasn't an additional stressor on this young man? What exactly are you basing that on, Ken? I hope you washed your hands after digging it out. He had problems, and his sexual orientation wasn't helping one bit.

I don't care if he was a guy who would suck a dick, or not. I want to know how a miserable little puke (may he never see the sky again), who would commit treason for the hell of it, got through the screening for his security clearance, and was able to pull it off.

Now I think we should get rid of DADT, and allow gays to serve openly. I'm not dumb enough to believe it will be a seamless transition, so I give some weight to the idea that our troops are a little busy right now, but it should happen.

Even if we accept your premise, Ken, which won't happen often, how often do things that have no bearing in a case, but are are nicely sensational, get loads of airtime?

I've tried really hard to resist posting here, but this one was too much.

You start a homophobic piece-of-crap thread suggesting that his being homosexual was a cause for what he did,  then try to weasel around and claim you don't care about gays in the military and you support the removal of DADT.

Then you try to cloak that all in some ridiculous argument about the media hiding it when you posted an article from the NY Times.

But I guess that wasn't sensationalistic enough, you wanted them to post a homophobic piece-of-crap article to draw the same nonsensical conclusions.

Well, Ken, I can see we're heading right into the same wall we've hit before. You are stuck on the thing itself, while I'm looking at the reaction and response to the thing. It's very scientific of you (until we get to the part where you just make shit up, and post links to imaginery citations), but it doesn't make for interesting dialogue.

As far as my thinking on the media response, I think Aylee nailed 80% of it when she said that the media would have to alter the talking on points on what they are pushing, and leave it to RML, with his cowardly soft-focus slurs, to bring up the other chunk. We've got part of the media establishment doing the three monkeys because they are ideologically invested in a certain outcome, and another bit who know they could run with the story, but are afraid of being tagged as homophobes, and self-censor to the gods of PC.

Here's what I'll do, RML. You run back over to the thread where you need to account for your stupid lie about "nearly all" the conservative posters, and I'll save you snarking here about the NYT link. News is a highly perishable commodity. "Tomorrow, birds poop you," as they say in the business. The Times ran their piece in August. Wikileaks and DADT topped the headlines in December.

The 24/7 news cycle has to be fed, and it does catch my interest when perfect morsels are kept from it.
