DarkSteven -> Steele's running for reelection. (12/15/2010 7:55:23 AM)

After months of speculation, it's pretty sure he's running.  He's got a website.  http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2010/12/14/steele-launches-re-election-website/#more-139837

This is gonna get ugly because his record is so susceptible to attack.  I predict the most divisive race for the RNC chairmanship ever.

servantforuse -> RE: Steele's running for reelection. (12/15/2010 8:09:10 AM)

The GOP supporters in the Michael Steele fan club are shrinking every day. I hope they throw him out.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Steele's running for reelection. (12/15/2010 9:25:03 AM)

He's pretty much an idiot.

servantforuse -> RE: Steele's running for reelection. (12/15/2010 10:48:45 AM)

I thought he would be great for the GOP, but your'e right, He's an idiot.

subrob1967 -> RE: Steele's running for reelection. (12/15/2010 12:41:15 PM)

He's an idiot who just oversaw the biggest landslide election in modern times, I wouldn't count him out just yet.

Did it happen because of him or in spite of him?

BTW, how much overseeing did he do? From what I saw, he just basically shut the hell up and stayed the hell out of the way which is the smartest thing he has done in years.

Fidel Castro 'oversaw' it too. Did just as much as Steele.  So we are still at one idiot.   And in general, this century is still modern times, for most of the world.

DarkSteven -> RE: Steele's running for reelection. (12/15/2010 1:05:58 PM)

Dunno if I'd call him an idiot.  He seems to have been a hands-off leader, and more concerned about using his expense account than electing anyone.   Not a team player.

Funny, the same sort of stuff said about Palin.

Wrong. He was very active at the grass roots level and leveraging the tea party. The Fire Pelosi Bus Tour helped keep the early energy going. He also helped bring GOP fund raising to the internet age. He isnt a shoo in, but he's the favorite.

Gotta dsisagree with you wilbur. the only thing he did here was tell folks that he would "Get" our representative. Our representative didnt vote the way he was told. He voted the way that he thought his constituents wanted him to vote. As a result, he was removed from the republican party even though he was speaker of the TN house.

He won in november by a 2:1 margin over the hand picked republican nominee and the dem combined.

None of which has anything to do with my post about his accomplishments.

The current favorite, in fact, seems to be Wisconsin Republican party chairman Reince Priebus, who managed Steele's 2009 RNC campaign. Priebus has been gathering support from committee members formerly loyal to Steele.

Could He Actually Win? Politico's Mike Allen reports that, yes, Steele could, "because he has spent much of his time in office greasing the committee members. Top donors," however, "say that if he wins, they will publicly formalize their de facto boycott of the RNC under Steele." Because of this, "there's going to be pressure for the field to consolidate behind a few challengers. Wisconsin GOP Chairman Reince Priebus is the favorite, and could win outright if Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour publicly embraces him. Otherwise, it'll probably turn into a second-ballot race between Steele and one of the other challengers."

Seems others dont feel Steele is the favorite.

It has EVERYTHING to do with his activity at the grass roots level. WTF is MORE grass roots than someone running for the state house from a rural county and then here comes Mr High and mighty who couldn't fucking FIND us on a map without a funnel TELLING us that he is going to PERSONALLY see that our rep gets replaced in the fall.
This guy did more for our county in 4 years than the previous reps did in 30. As speaker, he saw more Republican bills pass than at any time in the state's history and Steele comes to our county saying that he is going to personally see him replaced.
WTF is more grass roots (and meddling) than that?

I think recent tea party success may need to keep him, to maintain their delusion of being diverse, and therefore representative of all in the United States.   M

1 candidate that you happen to like doesnt mean jackshit in the context of Steele's accomplishments. Not everyone the GOP backed won. Surprise surpirse surprise.

Ah, but you need a healthy GOP to keep the Dems in check, and vice versa.  Not only do we have the system of checks and balances in the three branches of government, but we have two parties that must sell themselves to the American people.  If either party became impotent, then the other would have a heyday.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Steele's running for reelection. (12/17/2010 5:36:00 PM)

You are changing points wilbur. You mentioned his grass roots activities. By the way, weren't you one of the ones that was saying "The tea party isnt part of the Republican party"? But now you say that Steele was working with them. Make up your mind.

Steele has no business in local races.

He also had no business trying to micromanage the party. In this part of the country, I know a lot of folks that used to donate to the RNC that refuse to do so now because of Steele.

He just came here to show his face and try to tell people what to do. As a result, we have the first non-Republican state rep since the late 1800's in a county that would vote for Satan if he had an (R) after his name on the ballot.

Didnt work too well did it?

I didnt change anything. You tried to conflate 1 single fucking politician with the entire national grass roots movement. Sorry, it doesnt wash.

What I recall saying about the tea party is that they are a separate entity from the GOO that recognized they are more closely aligned with the GOP and had the best chance of influencing national policy and winning some races by running as Republicans then as a third party.

Of course Steele has a place in local races. Where do you think the next national candidates come from?

I simply dont believe you on the rest of it. If the region was so solid Red, Steele alone could not have changed that.
