Prince William County in Virginia found an easy way to do that: harsh crackdown on illegal immigration. Poverty causes crime. 2. Illegal immigrants are otherwise law-abiding people who take low-paying jobs Americans don't want. They fail to see the contradiction. Oh, yeah, Bush was a total zero as regards illegal aliens. That was obvious before the election(s)..... It's not quite accurate to say that Rs and Ds alike want it. By a huge margin, most opposition to these shamnesty schemes has come from the R side of the aisle.

My beef is that we did a once in a lifetime - in 1986. Until my generation fades- we will always recall the phrase- once in a life time amnesty. My question on all this- is would reform shore up Social Security? If so- then I would support it. It likely is a wash tho.

Reform would supposedly harm SoSec, the theory being that some illegals pay into the system but never collect. I am not saying I buy the theory.... We have 10% unemployment. We have 10% illegal aliens (who are either working for a living, or stealing for one) We just extended unemployment benefits to THREE fucking years. The libtards claim illegals are good for us. You can't make this shit up.

I am in no hurry for austerity. None. Be careful with that. With the trillions spent on wars- and waste- a few programs are a drop in the bucket. When we get there it wont be pretty.

truckinslave I read the article and the side bars and did not come to the same conclusions you came to…or at least we seem to of taken something different from the article. As I understood the bottom line and thrust of the article is by lowering taxes, especially school taxes…reducing government…and by reducing illegal immigrants the local economy picked up… Businesses started hiring and employing local residents… could it be because they needed to replace illegal’s? Reducing illegal’s was accomplished by requiring all show proof legal residency when pulled over by the police. I read some of the police report to the county and it showed 76 percent of Hispanics were OK with the law only slightly less the white residents. It seems to be working for the economy even if not having much an effect on crime. I see their policies as fair but one that should be watched to be sure discrimination does not creep in. I find nothing wrong with enforcing laws on illegal immigrants. Butch

Thanks Truckin', just North of here in North Carolina one-third of the DWI fatalities are caused by illegal aliens, WAY out of proportion to their numbers. And in the local newspaper's website they have a section called "Mugshots" and there's always illegal aliens in it. When you see, "no bail set" for something minor you know they're illegals and will be held after trial. Even the ones they catch for minor infractions get on the jail bus and are sent down to Charleston to a federal facility. Man, some of them are some "fugly" mofos! I call them "pumpkin heads." The Mexicans and Central Americans aren't a real good looking group of people. They look like they came right out of the stone age minus the hair. Some of them are pretty scary looking. So, the local and state police in this state (SC) are on top of the situation. About four or five miles down the road are a bunch of trailers that they live in. Whenever we see three or four cop cars go screaming by here everyone knows where they're going! About four or five years ago one of them killed another in a drunkin knife fight. The News said the guy bled out and was dead before the cops got there. You can see the mugshots in The Sunnews.com Some of them are pretty comical!

I've been bangin this drum for years, a small part of the cacophony that just killed the illnamed Dream Act. A nation that doesn't control its borders is headed for civil war, or simple dissolution.

There's more than one face to this story. Many of the people entering the US illegally are doing so to escape crime and to look for the opportunity to work. 'Why is this our problem?' I hear you ask. Well, it's mostly because your government creates the difficulties these people are facing.
