That country is dangerous. They may back down for now but what about the future?North Korea is known for it's back and forth type of game's.That's a dangerous nutjob who run's that country.

DarkSteven -> RE: North Korea backed down! (12/20/2010 11:15:18 PM)

Hey, they may attack tomorrow, but for today they haven't.

graceadieu -> RE: North Korea backed down! (12/21/2010 12:12:33 AM)

I'm glad they did, but not surprised. The North Korean economy depends on foreign aid, and a reliable and long-tested way for them to get it is to make threaten gestures so the US & South Korea will pay them off. If they actually provoked a war, they not only wouldn't get the $$$ but would also lose the war and be annexed by South Korea. I'm sure Kim Jong Il knows that.

hertz -> RE: North Korea backed down! (12/21/2010 1:49:04 AM)

This is good news. It proves that conservative claims that the government of North Korea is bonkers is not true. When being baited by the only superpower in the world to use nuclear weapons against civilian targets, backing down is an eminently rational choice to make.

DMFParadox -> RE: North Korea backed down! (12/21/2010 2:07:40 AM)

Don't know if I agree with any of that statement. Either the evidence of sanity even granting the rest of your premise, or the rest of the premise "backing down is an eminently rational choice to make." It may create a Nash equilibrium, but it's not necessarily the most rational choice to back down; in that scenario, the evidence suggests the only rational choice is irrational unpredictability. No really, there's math for it and everything; blew my mind too.

hertz -> RE: North Korea backed down! (12/21/2010 2:40:21 AM)

You could challenge the notion that North Korea is being 'baited' by the US and South Korea. Maybe that's covered by your first sentence.

Irrational unpredictability is still an option.

Thank God, they see to love their children too.   Going to war with folks who have nothing to lose is always a losing proposition.   I cannot wait until we leave the middle Afghanistan, Iraq, and Pakistan.   M

Didn't the History Channel have a program about where the Japanese used the first one in China?   Just asking

That would be a possibility for the US edit, except for the little matter that it would imply the Japanese did fission before the US. And as we know, the US invented everything, so no-one would believe that. Unless there was a subplot involving soviet spies and wikileaks.

I wouldnt call backing the south "Baiting"  If America doesnt make a stand North Korea will push harder than before.

There is a long history of playing off the superpowers against each other, and with Chinas new economis ties with America, that ploy has come to an end. Sooner or later the regime will implode on itself, since there is no way it can get by without Chinese or US aid.

servantforuse -> RE: North Korea backed down! (12/21/2010 5:21:22 PM)

China and Russia ain't going to put up with that shit.. China and Russia have been supporting that rogue nation since the end of the Korean war. They are the only reason that North Korea exists today.

No Pear Harbor = No Hiroshima.

You are the type that would pull a knife on someone and whine when they shot you.

If it wasnt for the US that you seem to hate so much, your capital would be in Berlin.

Hillwilliam -> RE: North Korea backed down! (12/21/2010 5:29:19 PM)

Referring to hertz the albino in the previous.

Seriously, do they teach you guys this crap in schools. Last week I had Wilbur spouting on about how D-Day would still have happened without British help. What a crock that was.

If it wasnt for the French, you would still be speaking English. [8D]

You have to be kidding. Did he advance any theories on where we would have launched the invasion from?

I live in TN. The 2 most lopsided defeats that British troops have ever experienced in the last 1000 years were Kings Mountain and New Orleans.
Both were when they messed with Tennesseeans.

The rest of the US night still be saying God Save the Queen but .................... [8D]
