MissAsylum -> When it comes to corsets.... (12/22/2010 12:47:04 PM)

Is leather a matter of preference, or is it a necessity?

mummyman321 -> RE: When it comes to corsets.... (12/22/2010 2:09:36 PM)

Simply preference. I have seen many more victorian corsets out of a variety of materials. Leather is definitely sexy but by no means the only choice.

The gal who makes all of My corsets has a line of silk as well.  My personal preference is leather, but others may have different opinions.  I'm not sure if you looked at all of the pics when you stopped by My profile recently, but I'd be happy to show you various shots of Mine.  Feel free to drop Me a note on the subject any time.

Oooh another corset thread. Yay!

i'd be hoping for some information as well. i'm still undecided. Right now, all i'm doing is saving up for it.

i think my biggest question is, is it better to get one or two nice custom made ones or have a handful to wear whenever? Sometimes, i'm torn because i don't have a lot of nice things to wear at a moments notice but at the same time i'd like to have a slowly growing collection of awesome stuff.

Like the OP, i'm torn about fabrics as well. my biggest concern though would be to find some sort of material that lasts a long time and still looks new after years of owning.

anniezz338 -> RE: When it comes to corsets.... (12/22/2010 10:03:41 PM)

I would see leather as a preference.

I got one today, a Christmas treat from someone.
I LOVE it. I've never had one before. And the girl that helped me was very knowledgable about them, fitting it just right for me so I could get it on (no easy feat...lol) after leaving the store. She helped alot. I had a color in mind, but was open to material and style. I just wanted it to be flattering for my body type. That was most important to me was how I felt in it.

He loved it :)

Preference. Steel boning, however, is a necessity IMHO.

If it's not steel (or antique bone) I won't bother with it. I expect to spend 100+ on a corset. A sexy little bustier from Adam and Eve where the brocade pulls free from the seams if you actually try to tight-lace it... 50-75 bucks max. For my corsets, I favor Brute Force Leather and Passional.

oh, yes, some cheapy corset from a mainstream store isn't worth the fabric its made of.

i found that out the hard way when i gave everyone a free show one time when the boobage support of my corset gave way. It freaking sucked. No more commercial corsets for me after that.

Awww!!

They do have a purpose. They look good and are a lot cheaper. They are just wrapping and not functional. Kinda like the 'five minute shoes' you can buy at sex stores. The ones where I put them on and started gasping from pain as soon I stood up. Evidently they aren't designed to be walked in... That's exactly what I was told by the saleslady. I didn't buy them.

I love leather and have several leather corsets but also some in silk, brocade and satin...

Admittedly I have a bit of a leather fetish, but I also love corsets, made to measure is best, but as a commercial site Vollers offers really good value for money, their quality is quite good.

I agree with this. Nothing holds you together like steel!

I only have one leather corset and its an underbust. I'm not overly keen on leather and so I tend to go for satin or cotton. I had a genuine Victorian corset with the attachments for a bustle but someone stole it when I did a change in a club :(
A corset should be well lined with a strong cotton fabric and if it buckles at the front, the lacing at the back should tie off in the middle.
I buy off the shelf underbusts but always have a full corset made to measure. Nothing looks worse than a badly fitted corset.
The one I have on in one of my profile pictures is a cotton underbust.

Adam and Eve. They do have some well-made shoes but... *shrugs*

Help...
I am interested in getting a quality corset but do not have any idea where to look. I want quality with the steel boning & understand I will most likely have to custom order it. I am a thick woman (not fat - around 200#) but have small B cups. Everything I find to fit me is way too big in the boobs - I honestly have this issue when bra shopping to!

Any help with website info would be appreciated. I live in north AL so if anyone knows of a place where I can go close to home I would love to hear about it.

Thanks

YoungBlondeSlave -> RE: When it comes to corsets.... (4/1/2011 9:31:03 PM)

Best bet is to look online and see if there are any shops within driving distance that will do custom work. They can be pricey, but by all accounts I've heard, and absolutely worth it. Ask around on FL too, the boards there will have lots of help and advice as well.

I love corset's and I'm hoping to get another one. I bought mine through Xcentricites and I love it. http://www.xcentricities.com/index.html . It's black silk with Red and Pink cherry blossoms. They are here regularly at a local convention in July called Convergence.

They do a wonderful job.

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: When it comes to corsets.... (4/24/2011 2:22:33 PM)

I am a corset lover too; they just look great on me extra curvy figure. I have 2 off the rack that are not "real" corsets, just for looks, and then 1 black silk that will cinch my waist very nicely.

A tip for corset buyers: custom measurements should include your torso length, there is nothing more uncomfortable than a tight corset with a steel bone digging in your arm pit. This is not good pain!

Also, look for a busk as opposed to a zipper. Any corset that closes with a zipper will have limitations in terms of how well it will hold you in. So look for a busk in front with ties in back, or ties both front and back.

I'd like to learn how to make my own and have done some research in that area. There is a reason a good corset that actually works is so expensive, they are a LOT of work.
