Why would a bank need to make money?

They print it from thin air.

My main problem with this hunk is I don't know if you are being serious or just fuck'n with us. I'll settle for the latter.

The currency is not backed by an asset.  It is backed by debt.

so yeah- the federal reserve prints it out of thin air- and then charges us for what is already ours.

While we agree on the overall corruption to our economy directly as a result of the corrupting effects of a monetary system using the federal reserve system and its notes but 'printing up money' is an old term used when we actually did. We do not actually print up money anymore than we destroy for wear & tear. ($900 million/day)

We now have 'quantitative easing' in which the fed hits a few keys on the computer and presto, a bank's capital reserve is higher on their computer screens. If the bank can lend out the resulting freed-up cash profitably, everybody is happy. If it cannot, well their govt. run, single payer, health insurance co. otherwise known as the FDIC takes the balance sheet into receivership and provides enough real cash to entice a bigger bank to acquire it.

Call them bank-financed mini-bailouts...run by the govt. just in case they need some more of our...real cash.

MrR,  we are on the same page- in regards to monetary policy.

It is astounding their smoke and mirrors have worked this long.  When it all finally totally crashes- it wont be pretty-- not at all.

God help us.

I tend not to give enough credit to many conspirators about how so many things begin to fit together. When interest rates shy-rocket, unemployment gets even worse, demand falls further and things for the great unwashed get even worse yet...that's why we have $billions in vacant FEMA camps, up and running, ready to accommodate our dietary and lodging needs.

They wont be called FEMA camps tho.  The superdome during Katrina was a good example. One could go there but not leave-  for a good week.   A fascining experiment on mass psychology.

The camps will be called something else-  something innocent sounding.

"and then charges us for what is already ours."

Not any more. Mass production has mostly left the country. We are not earning it, and even though they caused the conditions whereby this came about, the fact still remains.

Foresight was not 20/20 to say the least, and it seems hindsight isn't even clear anymore. While the rich did benefit from the change from domestic production to foreign production, we did as well.

When the currency is credit and we use currency, we use credit. Nobody wants to give that up. Understandable.

Whether the currency is hard or fiat or whatever is not really pertinent to this topic. It is agreed upon, for now. Those investment firms who short sell stocks and bonds are generating retirement checks for the elderly, and carefully studying what is a good investment vs what is not. They are likely to be more objective than most, because it is in their best interest.

Not that the system isn't abused, but abuse is our middle name.
