LadyC, I tried that when I got Squeaks because the 2 middle boys were picking on her, and it made no difference at all.  I have no idea why he started doing this.  He didn't do it when I got the kittens, nor when he lived with 2 other cats in their house.  I've tried all the sprays on the market, but since he backs up to spray, it's not affecting him at all.  I'm going to have to go out and get a new set of box springs for the king sized bed, but have to find out how to protect them.

Shutting the doors won't work either, because he'll dig at the bottom and rip out the carpet on the floor.....he HATES closed doors!

I adore cats, but this is one of the reasons I'm glad I don't have any now.

My sister handled this by training her dog to go after the cat when it started scratching at any furniture.  The dog knows that the cat isn't allowed to claw so he became the enforcer when my sister isn't around.  He isn't mean or rough with the cat... he actually adores it... but he just doesn't leave the cat to scratch in peace.

You'd be surprised by just how well that works.  [:D]

If you go by wild animal standards, most animals will stay away from areas where predators spray. But what is considered a predator of a cat? My cats kick my dogs butt.

Coyote urine. I considered it for keeping the deer away from the roses but decided I'd rather live with less flowers than coyotes by the door.

dont know if it would work or not (as it was suggested before that it would be peed over to cover the smell) but I know that cats can't stand the smell of tea tree oil, cause always when I use it when I have a nasty cold, mine are nowhere to be seen...they don't want to know me with that smell on me....so I would cover that area with the tea trea oil....

Felis Domesticus is on the top 100 list of environmentally invasive species. Now you know why! Classed as "vermin" in many states.

Tell your neighbor to spray "sour apple spray" around her stoop weekly. That is the only thing I have found that keeps the four footed critters away. It is made from apple cores and seems to smell almost as nasty to cats and dogs as cat spray smells to humans.

Treasure, he doesn't do it alot, and I can't smell it on the bed because I've cleaned it, but he can still smell it, and when he's pissed at me for something I have or haven't done, he goes and sprays.  Hence the new box springs.....I just wish I knew why he started doing it!

He never did it when I had my dog.  And he and the other 3 don't tear up the furniture, they actually prefer their scratcher thing....it's corrogated cardboard in a cardboard box...cheap and they love it!
