ORIGINAL: soul2share LadyC, I tried that when I got Squeaks because the 2 middle boys were picking on her, and it made no difference at all. I have no idea why he started doing this. He didn't do it when I got the kittens, nor when he lived with 2 other cats in their house. I've tried all the sprays on the market, but since he backs up to spray, it's not affecting him at all. I'm going to have to go out and get a new set of box springs for the king sized bed, but have to find out how to protect them. Shutting the doors won't work either, because he'll dig at the bottom and rip out the carpet on the floor.....he HATES closed doors! I adore cats, but this is one of the reasons I'm glad I don't have any now. My sister handled this by training her dog to go after the cat when it started scratching at any furniture. The dog knows that the cat isn't allowed to claw so he became the enforcer when my sister isn't around. He isn't mean or rough with the cat... he actually adores it... but he just doesn't leave the cat to scratch in peace. You'd be surprised by just how well that works.
