Hi all. Happy holidays.

My roommates computer has been attacked by a virus and we cannot even get the screen so we can go into safe mode....tried the F8 key...didn't work. When the computer is started, nothing happens, literally.

Any suggestions? thanks in advance :)

Edited for more info.....he ran a malicious antivirus software. bmctl.exe infected started it.

It's always a good idea to put your computer in safe mode, I'm touring schools to educate people of the dangers of unsafe mode.

I've got to a point in my life where I've seen enough people maimed by exploding computers. If I can stop just one person from being injured as the result of exploding computers then it's time well spent. I say to them F8 it, make it part of your routine!

If nothing at all happens when you turn on your computer you either have a serious hardware failure or the bios chip is bad. A virus is almost certainly not to blame.

If you are getting nothing whatsoever, my first guess would be the Motherboard died.
