Yes, it has happened before...and after wood, coal was an issue until the development of ways to utilize oil...all carbon based fuel sources. I think the difference now isa that alot more will be effected than the historical examples previous...and more will suffer. Will humans 'die' out from it, nope; we are resilient as stated...and we are animals, even if we deny that aspect of ourselves...perhaps we should remember though what our context is...

Round.

No no but really, why go so far ahead.
Heres some interesting information that might just change the world as you know it tomorrow.

European astronomers have captured images of Comet P73/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3 as it disintegrates before their very eyes. The comet had ejected a new fragment just a few days ago, and now this fragment has broken into multiple pieces too. Astronomers aren't sure just how many pieces the comet will eventually break into. It reaches its closest point to the Earth on May 11, so we'll get our best view then. The fragments will reach their closest point to the Sun on June 7, so there's more time for more destruction. Could a peice hit earth or the world be blasted out of existance?  http://www.universetoday.com/am/publish/comet_broken_heart.html?2642006

The U.S. is unprepared for a disaster of Hurricane Katrina's scale, according to a Senate inquiry that lawmakers said Wednesday took a critical look at failures in responding to the storm.

The final report is ``fair and tough, and it charts a course to strengthen our nation's emergency preparedness at all levels,'' leaders of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee wrote their colleagues.

IF the societies continue on the path they are I think between now and 50 years from now there will be a nuclear war and that most of the world as we know it will be devestated if not gone.
