Why would I comment when nobody has said anything meaningful?

So why did you start a meaningless thread?

I see more meaningless threads from you in our future.

Since there were never any death panels to begin with how could possibly be brought back?

Everything that can be bought or sold is a commodity.

Anything and everything can be bought or sold, that doesn't make it right.

Yeah, I don't understand what point wilbur is trying to make. I don't know what a death panel is.

Every country that spends public money on healthcare, EXCEPT FOR THE US, operates their public healthcare programs within a budget.  Here, in the US, there is no budget. Medicare is obligated, in an open-ended fashion, to spend all that is required.

What makes us feel we can continue to do this so irresponsibly?

Why are the people who just cried monkey over the debt in the run-up to the election so adamant that we continue spending public money irresponsibly with no budget process?

The need to operate within a budget DOES put pressure on spening the money in the wisest fashion.  Just ask any other country.  The generations of elderly people in this country who lived and died before Medicare came along got by without expensive hip replacement surgery at age 89.   Why can't today's generation of elderly get by? What a nation of entitlement-minded elderly wussies we have today.

Termyn8or -> RE: What did Santa sneak in? Death Panels are back (12/30/2010 7:04:49 AM)

HK, a death panel is a bunch of guys in the backroom at an insurance company who decide to cancel you when you need expensive treatment, that which the company does not want to pay for. Simple equation, public opinion^communicatio/money*APR or APY/APR or APY*dividends-negativity/communication/taxes^-.0048 ........... something like that.

Too damn complicated for so early in the morning.

But the idea now is to give the same people a government office. Just like the FDA, USDA and who the fuck knows who else. Now their decisions will have the weight of "law" for those who comply.

Guess what I'm gonna do........

They were originally planned as the ultimate deterrent on "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy": anybody who was so hopeless that the gay designers couldn't get anywhere with them was going to be taken out and shot as a warning to the others.
For some reason, the network vetoed that. Something to do with the liberal media conspiracy, most likely.

EternalHoH -> RE: What did Santa sneak in? Death Panels are back (12/30/2010 9:18:45 AM)

We ration healthcare already. We just don't ration it rationally. In the private sector, it is rationed in a way that benefits the shareholder.  In the public sphere, we ration it by some arbitrary age, giving million dollar surgeries to people in their 11th hour, while failing to preventatively treat illness earlier in younger people who can live long enough to overcome illness and 'pay it back', make some contribution to the GDP.

Other countries do ration properly, invest earlier, and get a return on the investment.

We bury all our public money right along with the body. We get NO return on the public money.

It's American Exceptionalism alright.  Exceptionally stupid, that is.

I just don't get people like willbe, people who complain about government spending in one breath and then who adamantly defends his grandma's right to open-ended public entitlements in the next breath, in a "how dare anybody 'death panel' her" kinda way....  You can't complain about entitlement spending, and then assert that cutting off that very same spending is a 'death panel' attack against grandma. Isn't that an act of attacking one's own beliefs?

Medicare and Social Security were invented when the elderly truly were the poor class.  Today, the retirement generation is the wealthiest class.  Today's retirees also okay'ed the destruction of the high wage jobs base that built their very wealth, keeping the same wealth potential from the next generation, all for the quick boost in their invested 401Ks right now. "Going out with a financial bang", they are.

And what do you think is going to happen to Canada's healthcare budget when it consume almost 2/3 of every tax dollar (at curent rates) in 2020? Oh, I know, global warming will eliminate the need for heat and snow plowing.

EternalHoH -> RE: What did Santa sneak in? Death Panels are back (12/30/2010 10:54:45 AM)

The answer is easy - budget cuts.

But at least they have a budget.  They are still one step ahead of us in that area.

Canada also simply does not have our expenses in other areas.  They spend a greater share on healthcare and mass transit because they don't have the line-item fluff in the budget, nor the maintenance costs of "empire", that we do.

Death panels were always there. They never left the bill. The NEW WORLD ORDER wanted death panels in the bill. So they got it....Democrats are fools.

tazzygirl -> RE: What did Santa sneak in? Death Panels are back (12/30/2010 1:34:36 PM)

oh lord... another NWO nut case.

Some reality is needed.

Lorenzo's Oil... an orphan drug.. called that because the target base of patients requiring the oil wasnt enough to support the costs of making it. There are many such drugs.... death panel by drug company.

This is just one example of death panels... as you nut jobs want to call them... that have been around for decades.
