Termyn8or -> Take it to email ? (12/27/2010 10:13:47 PM)

Just left an in person argument about the economy. Now as many know, voices get raised frequently during these things and the topic is hot as hell these days. An argument isn't bad in and of itself of course, and even with voices raised it is not out of hand. But,,,,,,,

This is detrimental to communication. The focus tends to leave, especially when people disagree. In person, it disintegrates to the point where it is better to leave it alone and the argument stops. Even if it doesn't stop it's usually ineffective at that point which is where I'll just take a walk. Let people be wrong. I listened, and if my reponse doesn't agree, then we must address every little fucking tertiary argument possible and progress stops.

I've come to believe that internet fora, and blogs as well as email are better. Though I am aware that some have found a way to be absrasive in this medium (print), it is better in some ways. Now don't get me wrong, this is not new, before the internet and even BBSes there were penpals, journals distributed, other methods. Now in this age it has become much easier.

Things can be taken on a point by point basis, and if one becomes abrasive, the other can simply show their rough edges. Many years ago the cops came. There was a noise complaint. It was late and a few of us were talking politics. The cops knock and I just yelled as usual "IT'S OPEN". Joint right on the table, bunch of rowdies. There was no problem but we were asked to quiet down "We know what you're doing here, just do it quietly or we'll be back". But really they weren't there for a loud stereo like usual, I guess it got that loud.

Well, that said, imagine about ten of us, together in a room in person talking politics. Take the ten most prolific "contributors" here and put them in a room. You could probably blow off a gun and nobody would notice. Ya think ?
