Charley, a new retiree-greeter at Wal-Mart, just couldn't seem to get to work on time.

Every day he was 5, 10, 15 minutes late. But he was a good worker, really tidy,

clean-shaven, sharp-minded and a real credit to the company

and obviously demonstrating their "Older Person Friendly" policies.

One day the boss called him into the office for a talk.

"Charley, I have to tell you, I like your work ethic, you do a bang-up job,

but your being late so often is quite bothersome."

"Yes, I know boss, and I am working on it."

"Well good, you are a team player. That's what I like to hear.

It's odd though your coming in late. I know you're retired from the Armed Forces.

What did they say if you came in late there?"

"They said, "Good morning, Admiral, can I get you coffee, sir?"

I hate to be the fly in the proverbial soup.. but since all humor is supposed to have a grain of truth to it.. in what universe does a retired admiral become a wal-mart greeter? Given that an active duty military retirement results in immediately receiving retirement pay, and an admiral is assured to have spent 30 years in, thus entitling them to 75% of their base pay, the lowest ranking admiral (O-7.. they go all the way up to O-10 for those who aren't familiar) will retire with approximately $85,000 net income per year, by my estimate. Who on earth with that kind of retirement income would settle for a job as a wal-mart greeter, unless they were crazy (which definitely does not fit the description of the man in the joke)

I'm just sayin.

After 2 divorces in the wrong state, that's just over $20,000 (and could be even less if he's required to pay all the taxes)

Divorce doesn't preclude one from getting a much better job, and with an admiral's credentials, a nice cushy government job isn't all that hard to obtain.

I guess in the case of two divorces, you might take the wal-mart job just to spite the greedy ex-wives though...

Still, highly unlikely.

*sigh* Maybe.

Weirder things have been known to happen.

It still truly tests the limits of believability.
