CM Question - 12/29/2010 1:13:03 PM

Relatively new to CM so I am unfamiliar with all the ins and outs as it were. So here is my question...

I sent a system mail to an individual, they didn't respond but I noted that they had read the mail. Here is where it gets kind of weird though...their profile becomes unaccessible so I am thinking that they blocked me. However, later on I see that they are on and I can access their profile. Now, they have vanished again. My guess is that they blocked me, unblocked me, then blocked me again...am I close or is there some other explanation?

Thanks in advance for any information that you can shed on this for me.

That can come from folks choosing to hide and unhide their profile.

If you can no longer write to this individual, you may have very well been blocked.  I do this Myself when I do not want to be contacted again by someone who has sent Me an email that I do not wish to respond to so that I don't get repeated contacts when I'm not interested.  Blocking does not come into the equation if you are still able to look at the profile.  Just that you can not contact the person again.

Thanks LadyPact, I was just curious it seemed kind of unusual. I think that I will not put the point of being blocked to the test, lest I make myself a pest. Who knows, may very well have nothing to do with me at all (my ego really likes that explanation so that is what I am going with). ;-)

Have a better one!

I would try and email them again. If you can they simply hide and unhide their profile if you are blocked I believe you get a message saying you are blocked from contacting this user. However, I am guessing on the notification part. I've never had anyone block me on the other side.

Thanks...but since they didn't reply to my email a second would probably send the wrong signal. Have a great New Year! 8-)

It likely has nothing to do with you.

Also they may yet respond to your e-mail. They may at the moment be preoccupied with X-mass, etcetera, and respond at a later, more convenient time. Or they may not respond - and that is their privilege.

Absolutely Rule and I didn't mean to imply otherwise. Just wasn't sure how the CM block system worked. Anyway thanks for the responses, it is much appreciated.

CM does not have an option for blocking singular individuals from viewing ones profile. The only way to prevent people from viewing your profile, is to hide the profile - which prevents everyone from viewing it. The reason I know this is I have often wished it WERE possible to prevent certain individuals from viewing my profile. That would be a handy option!

If you were blocked, it would mean you couldn't write to them. However, you would still be able to view their profile.

I've hidden my profile before, then unhid it for various reasons only to hide it again. That's not uncommon at all.

I think you are wise, and considerate not to become, or appear to become, a pest by sending another note just to find out if you've been blocked.

Oh, and welcome to CM!

I know I'm a geek when a woman making an intelligent joke about a computer language is attractive.

Winnie, that was beautiful!
