I've had something similar happen to me, but I wasn't in a harness or bondage of a kind. Just standing at a St. Andrews cross with my arms above my head holding onto handles at the top. It was the first time I've ever been whipped in a standing position. I started to feel detached from myself and light-headed and felt like I was going to pass out. And sure enough, I lost consciousness and fainted. My top was behind me and didn't see my face; he had no clue what was happening....I could hear him talking to me, but I couldn't respond or get words out at all. That was the last thing I remember before fainting. According to him, I just slid right down the cross, and he was able to catch me as soon as he realized what was happening. When I came to, we were both on the floor and I was in his arms. It didn't scare either one of us, and as soon as I felt better and had some juice, we continued on, but I stayed on the floor.

In my case, I think it's a reaction to the pain. I do much better when Im on the floor or on a bed, or on my knees or whatever. And even then, I get a bit woozy at times when the pain gets intense. But as long as I'm down low, I can stave it off by tucking my head down for a few seconds if I feel it coming on. Unfortunately, I can't do that when I'm standing. I'd still like to try it again sometime but at least I know now that fainting is a possibility and something to beware of.

Hi marie2
important to remember when tied to a cross that your arms are not hyperextended or locked at the elbows, and if the arms are above the head for any time, they should be checked about every 10-15 minutes to ensure no circulation issues which can lead to fainting.

Also with cross play--people forget their knees--there is a tendency to lock the knees when strapped to a cross, rather than allowing for them to slightly bend.  This actually cuts off the main artery that runs through our trunk, and voila--fainting.  For those of you in the military/police/fire--it's why they always teach you not to lock your knees/bend slightly when standing at attention.

Any time you get that light-headed feeling--vocalize to your Dom/Domme/Top. Doesn't mean the scene has to stop, but it does mean you need to either change positions, change activities, or take a quick breather.

I am thinking you had OJ which increases gastric juices...a protein bar will do the same cuz it has to work a little hard to break down.  You played with food still in your stomach,  with alot of gastric juices at work, not to mention increased gastric juice from excitement and the fullness that carrots cause, tangled with a possible slow down of metabolism ,  while putting some pressure on your stomach.  Your body is telling you it isnt good position for your digestion right now, so it begins with the first sign of nausea.  I wonder if you would have refluxed or vomitted if you would have continued in that position.  Sitting upright was the best response to this.

What a relief. I already was speculating about OJ Simpson.

OJ Simpson is the latest role-play craze. It's pretty big in Asia right now

It took you AN HOUR to come out of the discomfort.
That is alarming in itself!
Go talk to a doctor.

Not exactly. The worst of it was over pretty quick, basically while the ropes were being taken off my head was clearing and I was calming down. I still felt a bit warm for awhile, I don't remember exactly how long. It was uncomfortable enough though that it gave me a good scare so I waited at least an hour before I resumed even light play with rope. I gave myself a good hour to get some food and plenty of liquid into me to make sure I wasn't having issues with low blood sugar.

And I've been perfectly fine and healthy since then so I would say that going to a doctor would be over-kill. The next time I do any sort of impact play and it happens again then I may start to worry.

I'm glad that Vasovagal response was noted in previous messages. I have had this happen to me with identical symptoms. I was/am perfectly healthy with no heart related maladies or blood sugar/pressure issues, and had lightly eaten about an hour before play.

I think that what triggered my episode was the situation.

A Domme who was relatively new to me. This was my first experience playing with her so full trust level had not been established. A public play space among strangers. St. Andrews cross. Blindfolded, Total nudity on my part. The flogging went well and I was enjoying it but when we progressed to a cane, the symptoms hit. A quick reporting of this and the scene immediately stopped. Getting on the floor with my head just a bit lower than my heart brought the response quickly under control. I'm sure I looked ridiculous with my butt in the air and my head on the floor but it worked.

The scene did not continue. The relationship did not continue either.

Looking back in my life I recall a few other instances when (in a non BDSM situation but with some physical stress and pain) I also had one or two episodes of these symptoms.

Now, being aware that this could happen to me, I informed up-front another Domme in a slightly different situation (Private dungeon), She had the patience to work with me through the issue. We started with me being horizontal on a spanking bench. No problems. Great scene and a very red bottom and back. We tried with hands suspended like on the St. Andrews and the symptoms returned. A brief recovery, and we tried again. The second time. success. Later I was able to scene in public on St. Andrews with no problems and great enjoyment. I think it might have been due to trust level that had developed between the Dominant Lady and her submissive (me).

In answer to the question of others' approach to eating before a play session, I don't eat. I haven't a lot of experience, so each session I've had, I have approached with excitement and nervousness. I can't eat when I'm excited or nervous. Those I've played with have been very good at monitoring me and ensuring that I'm well hydrated. I haven't had any problems so far. :) Generally speaking, I find that I perform better for any physical activity when I have an empty stomach, but that's me.
