Free Preventative Care Under Medicare
Starting January 1, 2011, co-payments and deductibles can no longer be charged for preventive care medical services.

However, beginning in 2011, seniors on Medicare will get a 50 percent discount on brand-name drugs while in the "Donut Hole," a gap in the Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage plan.

Beginning on January 1, 2011, insurance companies that provide individual and small group policies will be required to spend 80 percent of their premium dollars on medical services. Previously, insurance companies could pocket high profits without being accountable for the level of services provided to their insureds, the number of rescinded (retroactively canceled) insurance policies to avoid paying and claims, and salaries that made Wall Street fat cats look poor.

New Law Goes into Effect January 1, 2011
It’s difficult to remember – or even keep up with – new laws. There is one law, however, that was passed during President Bush’s term in office that many have followed since. As part of the Housing and Economic Recovery Act, passed into law in July, 2008, merchant acquirers will be required to begin reporting all credit and debit card transactions of their retailers’ to the Internal Revenue Service. That law goes into effect January 1, 2011.

In Ohio, beginning January 1, 2011 it would be against the law to transfer prescriptions between pharmacies more than once a year.

"In Ohio, beginning January 1, 2011 it would be against the law to transfer prescriptions between pharmacies more than once a year"

Huh ? What exactly does that mean, you can't go to Rite Aid and then to Wally's to get your meds in the same year ? Preposterous.

I wish lawmakers (or whatever they are) would go on a long vacation. Perhaps permanent.

Here's the California list that made the LA Times, Tazzy.
http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-new-laws-20110101,0,4232253,full.story

The new marijuana law kicks in, previously described by our departing governator as, "nobody cares if you smoke a joint."

One law is on the way out. State health officials will no longer be required to seek a "cure" for homosexuality.

I wonder how long before we have to drive on the left side of the street?

Try explaining your post on the other thread.

Let it slide for now taz. I gavim something to chew on over there.

I still want to know how they can say where you can buy your totally legal prescription drugs. Ohio is screwed up for sure, governors owning prisons and all that. Can't find anyone clean enough to buck the system from the inside (well Cocksnitch was an exception but I hear he got gerrymandered out), and Trafficant is a perfect example. People buy it, "oh he was a terrible crook", I agree, but the answer is to replace him with better crooks ? We don't have a Ron Paul or even a Rand, and we are seemingly fresh out of Presidents. I know it is bad here.

But transferring prescriptions ? What does that even mean ? To me, you walk in the drugstore with a scrip, give it to the guy at the counter really high, he goes gets it, you give him the money. To go to the drugstore down the street for the same thing is some sort of transfer ? I really don't get it.

What it means is that you cant switch pharmacies, more than once a year. Its not saying you cant use more than one pharmacy. The gist, as i get it, is that if you have a prescription at Walgreens, and switch to Walmart, then you cant switch again to RiteAide that same year with that same prescription.

I wonder why they made the RX law.  The only reason I can think of is that so many drug stores offer huge discounts on transferred Rx's, so they lobbied for such a law.

Gawd I hope I am wrong!

tazzygirl -> RE: New laws taking effect Jan 1, 2011 (1/1/2011 6:26:56 AM)

Get this, Jst! Something about "less paperwork"!

JstAnotherSub -> RE: New laws taking effect Jan 1, 2011 (1/1/2011 6:39:29 AM)

Yeah, less paperwork=less money we can save-lol.

tazzygirl -> RE: New laws taking effect Jan 1, 2011 (1/1/2011 6:40:41 AM)

Oddly enough, most prescription transfers are done electronically.

TheHeretic -> RE: New laws taking effect Jan 1, 2011 (1/1/2011 8:17:49 AM)

This prescription law will sure be a kick in the teeth for the independent pharmacies that are left. I think the number I saw for boomers turning 65 is 19,000 a day. For those who will be embracing a travelling lifestyle, the only sensible option will be one of the mega-chains with stores everywhere.

Another law designed to be a boon for corporate america?

Termyn8or -> RE: New laws taking effect Jan 1, 2011 (1/1/2011 10:24:47 AM)

tazz

You have just reached the next level.

It's not that you know that, it is how you got it in. It is the truth, and you have placed it perfectly.

More likely an unintended consequence of trying to enforce the insane drug control laws, Tazzy.

tazzygirl -> RE: New laws taking effect Jan 1, 2011 (1/1/2011 11:30:07 AM)

The compaint was that there was way too much paperwork in the tranfering of prescriptions, Rich. Im not sure how much paperwork is entailed when its done electronically.

TheHeretic -> RE: New laws taking effect Jan 1, 2011 (1/1/2011 11:42:48 AM)

And how much of that paperwork is created by restrictions on, and regulation of, controlled substances, Tazzy? I should be able to take a prescription to any damn pharmacy I want to, be it the big one here in town, the 24 hour one that is right on the way home from my office and the ER/Urgent Care, or the little independent one within walking distance of the house.

Depending on the type of prescription we are talkinbg about ....some don't travel so well. For instance I can not get my pain pill script refilled at the Wallgreens in NC.....nor the one in the next town over on Long Island.
Some scripts must be refilled at the original pharmacy.....so travelling means planning....unless you wwant to get caught in pain ....and without.

CalifChick -> RE: New laws taking effect Jan 1, 2011 (1/1/2011 8:04:05 PM)

A transferred script has nothing to do with where you first get it filled.  Your doctor can hand you a written script, or they can send it electronically (most often called "e-prescribing") to the pharmacy of your choice.

A transferred script is when that original script has some refills, we'll say three.  You went to Walgreens, for instance, to fill it.  When you're about to run out of the first batch, you notice that Joe's Big Pharmacy has an advertisment that says "transfer your script here and get a $20 gift card."  So you think "bonus!" and go see Joe with your pill bottle, and he pulls your script from Walgreens and fills it for you.  Then a month later, you need to fill it again, and now SamsMart has the same advertisement... bonus!  So you take your pill bottle to Sams, and they pull your script from Joe's Big Pharmacy and fill it for you.  You can do this transfer one more time with your original medication (you had the script plus 3 refills).

The law makes it so you can only do this one time, not one time for every refill of the original prescription.

Controlled prescriptions (formerly known as "triplicates") cannot be transferred at all, you have to get a new script.

So under the new law, after you transferred to Joe's Big Pharmacy, you would have to get the rest of your refills from Joe, or go back to your doctor for a new prescription to take somewhere else.  This does NOT mean you cannot have scripts for different meds going at several pharmacies around town (although why you would want to, I don't know).

As far as repealing the required "seeking a cure" for homosexuality law... it's merely a housekeeping issue.  No one has been obeying that law for quite some time.
