Actually the premise that it is not a good thing to know the future is closely held by many theiticians. (so I made up a word, maybe)

I agree, that worrying about the future, is a major source of misery for many people, myself included, when I can't stop myself.

My favorite astrology books, are "how to spot a bastard by his star sign", and "born on a rotten day."   I like them because they're funny as hell, but I also thought them fairly enlightening, as I recognize what they mention as my negative traits; so I work on those, in tandem with my desire to be less egocentric, and more in tune with what's positive/benevolent in the world.    M

I shouldn't believe in it at all, because it flies in the face of everything scientific, but... yet.... there are just too many odd "hits" for me to completely discount it. Aside from the fact that I'm a poster child Libra, which could easily be attributed to random chance, I've had too many peculiar congruences over the years. As an example, one morning about 10 years ago I opened up the paper and took a look at the horoscope. It said, "The journey of a lifetime is about to begin. It will involve an airplane, and a large body of water." As I read that, I was sitting on the runway of Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, waiting to take off for Hawaii, where I was moving to begin a new life.

Coincidence? Maybe. Even probably. But as I said, there've been just enough of those "hits" over the years that I can't quite dismiss it.

As a Libra John Smith read the same thing before getting killed by a lump of ice falling from a plane.

"that worrying about the future"

Actually that's not what I said. What i meant is to know the future would screw up the present.

No matter how bad it is, if some guy came from the future right now and told us things, useful things, we would screw the whole thing up, totally.

T. You seem to hold similar views to myself regarding the subject of astrology, as  I believe this personality trait stuff was done by observation over a long period of time. Furthermore, I believe there are forces in the universe we have yet to discover, as if the moon's gravitational pull can affect plant growth, the oceans and that thing females have, the curse, just what else is out there acting on this planet and everything on it, and with that the different alignments of the heavenly bodies, remembering of course the boffins of every time period watched the heavens. Now one force I do wonder at, is magnetism, for I believe what we  know about that force, we are only scratching the surface, Tesla got involved with it, and because of his studies, the science world ridiculed him, as his findings started moving towards mysticism.

But astrology, I cannot dismiss it, because of what I know, but I avoid the fortune telling stuff, as I do not want to know the future, for the future will come soon enough and I have the present to enjoy first. As regards to the personality traits, myself scorpio sun, virgo moon and capricorn rising, I believe that perhaps the solution is to evolve away from our personality, so knowing what you are to start with gives us a clue in which direction we should move. This of course does not apply to everyone, as not everyone is typical of their reading, perhaps they are older or even younger souls, but when one becomes aware of what they are, then that could be the time to evolve away from it, as to evolve is progress, we are learning, my belief is we are here to learn.

Tarot I sort of believe in, and regularly do the online Osho Zen tarot and the online transformational tarot, as it does help sort out some of the manglings of my mind.

An, it is not how most think. My background has in it what is called time three. time one is the present, time two is the past.

Is it portent or a part of us, or even a part of the universe, we don't know. We know some people seem to be able to tell the future. We know that some people can read a horribloescope or a bunch of tea leaves. At any given time we do not know if it is true.

We have to wait for the results. Astrology is just portent, because otherwise we would already know. It comes down, at least in this thread, that we could or not do something about it, to shape the future. Indeed now is the time, if only we had the means.

Perhaqps it is because of my earlier influence that I have pondered time travel so intimately, even though I believe that it is simply impossible for reasons beyond the scope of this text. But I did give it alot of thought. I wrote a story about a guy who was in suspended animation for 396 years. The ramifications of this were profound, after he found that in that future time, that time travel is possible. Well he fucked up, he went back to see his old GF and the shit hit the fan. All he did was to show up, console her and tell her that he simply could never come back, entrusting her with knowledge that people would kill for. She did not betray him, but after knowing that he was not coming back, she decided to marry instead of waiting for him, in his eyes he did the right thing. Just tell her, His visit to the past was very brief, but he made the facts clear so she could go ahead with her life, to consider him dead in a sense, but know that he is alright. Noble eh ?

So she gets married and her hubby beats her damnear to death. Also the guy breaks the law (written in first person so what do you expect) by his and his colleagues' plans. They go back in time repeatedly to bestow technical knowledge on their former selves, and this advances technology greatly. At one point in the story, someone says that he advanced technology by fifty years doing that, but the fact is he advanced technollogy five hundred years in that short span of time.

They might put me in jail this coming Wednesday, and I don't want to know. It's not that I don't care, even though I don't, but I want to live my life without the pollution of knowing the future. I don't want to know. I care yet I don't want to know. I don't know exactly how to explain it, but that's how it is.

I think it matters most when you popped your head out, and also when the DNA came together, the moment of conception. If anything.

Just an opinion.

I don't believe in astrology but it is fun to read just like a fortune cookie.

We have some very interesting views here. Just to clairify some things. No I don't think it tells the future. However this time it hit on some themes I have been flopping back and forth on like going back to school and actually entering a relationship.
Will I? Who knows, if the oppertunity presents itself I would like to think I would take it. But I already know that I have screwed up those decisions in the past.
Does knowing that those posiblities could precent themselvs again mean anything. No more then that I should be ready to step up to the bat and swing for the fences this time.

I do thank you all for your opnions, and look forward to reading more from everyone.

Perhaps if something appears to be a common occurrence, your clue is to do something about that common occurrence so you can turn the page so to speak. You mention previous attempts have failed, if that is so, perhaps your lesson is to change your approach, perhaps change is required of you.

Change is always required. That is why it is always difficult.

Not changing is not an option. Life is about change. I am still to young to resist change too much. Yes things staying the same is comfortable, but to not change I would have missed out on some amazing experiences. So for as much as I bitch about having to change, I know eventually it is worth it somewhere down the line.

That is true, we all seek change, it's everywhere, politics, finance etc, but we actually resist change, because we are comfortable in our little world no matter how arduous that may be, something like a case of better the devil you now than the one you don't. But when one actually takes that first step into change, often they are surprised at how other things change in the great equation and perhaps it is that, the unthought of's changing beyond our calculation that makes us back off. Simply, I think although we seek to know the future, we fear it and if astrology did hold scientific certainty instead of the tongue in cheek basis it has to many, I wonder how many would actually consult their stars.

But as to change why is there a need for change, a good question, but change is movement and better movement than stagnation, but as to changing the self, change into what, how, well I have found myself that changing from what it seemed what everyone else seemed to want me to be to myself was the best change I could have made and with that I have ditched many of my old thoughts with the ethos that if I cannot do anything positive about a situation, leave it alone, and that includes much of the world's happenings as is reported to us, as if our own lives are devoid of anything better than what the media fuels us with. Now I now who I am, I know there are a few things I have yet to change, but I believe everything in it's own time and when that time comes, I will know it and be ready for it.

Astrology is but a tool, a tool amongst many tools, tools aid, but they don't do, what does, is ourselves, we influence tools and the tools work for us, but we are ultimately just ourselves being ourselves for us, no one else.
