I know what most are thinking but this is not it. I am thinking of starting an internet radio station, but an exceptional one. I know people who know alot and alot about music history up to a point, I know some back past that and I do have some other resources. I haven't figured out the programming exactly, but between my collection and a few others' I can get just about anything, at least in certain genre' and some that might surprise you. But it would be a rock station pretty much, but different. And not all this wierd stuff, things that will be popular. Now basically I know the ins and outs, but I have never tried to, nor have I ever owned a radio station. The business is not hard to figure, you get paid for ads, and you pay royalties on the music. It's probably good that I didn't get engrossed into the old way, because it has changed. With the internet, when you pay royalties it can be based on actual listenership, if you play to two people it should be cheap, if you play to a hundred it's more, and if you play to a thousand even more. But then that is more direct proof than "the book" could ever be. Everyone is a Nielson family now. Playing the cards just right, I think there is a possibility to make money. The trick is to make it available. How the ads come in is a different story. It all has to be worked out to a neutral or positive cash flow after the initial investment and it's amortization. It should be doable unless the royalties are too high. This is just a seed in my mind right now, there is alot to consider, but some have displayed knowledge of this game. So I ask, I mean how much a song ? How much for hits that throw up a banner (forget popups, I got ten year old software takes care of that). I have some ideas on that which I don't want to go into right now. But is there a formula that I could go by just to estimate the royalty costs and then figure out the rest ? This is like a starting point. I can most likely find the necessary software somewhere, I've already looked into hosting and have gotten familiar with those rates, they are not that much really. Software will eat up a bunch of money and then royalties are an ongoing expense. I'd like to get an idea of what I am looking at. Anybody wanna share some knowledge ? T ETA : Shit, sorry about that. Can someone move this to OTD ? T
