Physical pain = kidney stones...thank the gods I'm such a pain slut!!!!

Emotional pain = enforcing the DNR for my father and holding him until he took his last breath.

I personally feel the the greatest pain one can endure is loneliness.
Actually to me loneliness isn't all that painful....more a numbness that pervades all aspects of one's life.

Agree.  But when you stop and think about it, it turns into a sharp and unbearable pain.

For me it would be losing 10 close family members in a ten year period. Grief is hard deal with but losing family you are very close to in such short succession is damn near enough to push you to the brink.

My Step father in law 10/99
My Grandmother 1/2000
My MIL 10/2000
My GFIL 1/2004
My 17 year old Nephew 9/2006
My Grandfather 6/2008
My FIL 7/2008
My Step Daddy 9/2008
My GGrandmother 6/2009
My GUncle 7/2010

in reply to subinlife,
you were there for your mother longer than you have been born.
i would believe you/ your essence was and is, there for her when it mattered to her.
Granted it was hard for you.
i wish to send you energy to help you come to terms with that pain.
Blue's bitch

Thank you Beinbluesbeech.

For physical pain, I'm going with childbirth.

Emotional pain, I'd say death of a child.  Today happens to be the anniversary of My brother's death.  It happened January 2, 1980.  I watched the hell they went through with their grief and I don't think anything compares to that.

kiwisub12 -> RE: What is the greatest pain in the world? (1/27/2011 3:27:00 PM)

Watching my Sir die was the worst thing i have ever had to do.

as for physically - i had a pulp bed infection in a finger lanced. I had to pull the dressing off a couple of days later, and apparently it hurt so much that i didn't feel it. I woke up on the floor - i had fainted.

Hillwilliam -> RE: What is the greatest pain in the world? (1/27/2011 3:27:41 PM)

The greatest pain in the world is when the person you have entrusted your heart, life, soul and sanity to basically says
"fuck you, I found something better"

DamnPickyDomme -> RE: What is the greatest pain in the world? (1/27/2011 3:42:14 PM)

agreed, been there myself. don't know if it's something i'll ever fully recover from. i highly doubt it. it has changed the person i was into the person i have become. going to have to be one very special person to have me open myself up to that kind of hurt again. i don't think that person exists. time will tell.

Only as long as you have hope that the loneliness will someday ease.

It's the hope that hurts, not the loneliness. Once you lose the ability to hope, and truly accept that you'll never know love again, it really doesn't hurt anymore.

But when you stop to think further; alone... al one.... all one. Once you are comfortable with yourself, I will not say you do not get occasional bouts of loneliness, alone and lonely become separate, bearable (and often comfortable), creatures.

I think grief is, no matter what form it takes.  It can manifest itself in emotional and physical pain and agony and can be attributed to all types of loss and even when its buried it can seep into the very core and cause emotions and actions that can appear to be many different things.

I have to say that *loss* of various kinds has been the most severe pain-deliverer for me.

Loneliness in and of itself wouldn't be the biggest bummer...although it'd depend what, how and why I felt lonely.( usually been *loss* for me)

Physically, Trigeminal Neuralgia has been the absolute worst........even after giving birth five times. I expect lots of people would swap all sorts of pain for another, if they had first hand experience of which was *lesser* in some way.

A bit like a game of * Which would you rather....?*....Would you rather chew a slug or eat a cow's eye?* . Sometimes you just KNOW which one you'd rather.

Being alone and being lonely are not the same, and I agree that it's possible to be alone without being lonely.  But it's impossible to be lonely without pain.

But I change my answer, not that I've had the time to think about it.  Knowing that you have never been loved by anyone, not even by those who should love you unconditionally, is the greatest pain.

Ditto. damn does that suck. Only the something better was kept in the dark. *sighs*

Bodily pain? Hmm My last labor was the worst- followed closely by dental pain.

LaTigresse -> RE: What is the greatest pain in the world? (1/28/2011 4:35:44 AM)

Physically for me, childbirth was nothing compared to shin splints. I've broken bones and had stitches without drugs, but those shin splints had me curled into the fetal position and crying.

Mental/emotional pain would be either feeling that I have somehow let someone I love down, caused them pain..getting that look of near hatred because of it. Or seeing my adult children suffer their own extreme pain and not be able to 'fix it'.

I've not lost anyone really near and dear to me, tot he extent of feeling great, heart wrenching, emotional pain. Most deaths in my life I have seen as a blessed release for the one that died. Even my jemma. To those that have lost and suffered greatly because of it, my heart goes out to you.
