She's required under Alaska state law to release the records within ten days. She's pulling one delaying tactic after another, and her latest request for delay, if granted, will push the time for compliance to 986 days.

Actually, it sounded like the article was stating that the departments in Alaska were delaying things. A lot of it due to cost.

I am not overly comfortable with the whole "the public needs to know" thing with the emails anyway. Emails are private conversations, not public, especially the yahoo account.

This seems to fall under "unreasonable search and seizure" except that it is the press instead of law enforcement asking for them.

The only reason to ask for these emails is because you think that a crime has been committed. In that case it needs to be reported. Then our not-so-perfect justice system can take over. Instead this is just the continuing witch hunt of Sarah Palin. Let's just give it the f*ck up already. It is not even worth it.

I'm no Palin fan, especially after her botched speech at my husbands deployment ceremony, but I lived in Alaska for three years and I know a thing or two about how that state works. Slow is a way of life in Alaska. Everything up there is about 10 years behind the times. Customer service is slow, people drive slow, winter passes slowly, and heck, for a while, we even had a "slow," governor! ;) The fact is, it is no huge shocker that they are taking forever to release the e-mails.. because they take forever to do anything!

It's what is called the long form birth certificate. Many states no longer routinely provide copies of that when a birth certificate is requested. The short form is official and has been released. It is valid for all purposes and proves both factually and legally that Obama was born in Hawaii.
