This is frigging hilarious:

A Germany company has found a use for all of those incandescent light bulbs that can no longer be sold in the EU: they aren't light bulbs, they are very efficient heating devices!  [:D]

Heatballs (in the original German)

Heatballs (the Google translation).

Yeah it would be fucking hilarious if I did not know the cycle of energy needed to generate most electric.  We burn a fossil fuel to HEAT WATER to create steam to turn a turbine that spins a magneto to generate electricity.

If the end result of that cycle, is heat generation, you've wasted energy, period end of statement.  The cycle is somewhat mitigated if it is hydro electric, or nuclear.  Creating heat with electric though, generally equals horrid waste.

PS the original heat source for the "Easy Bake" ovens were 100 watt lamps. (again a bulb is something you plant in the ground in the spring, what goes in a light fixture is a "lamp""

I remember the first time I compared light sources playing with a wavelength dispersive photometer. Incandescent light bulbs emit about 4 or 5 times as much heat energy as light whereas flourescent bulbs emit 90% plus visible light and virtually no heat.

man, some of you sure kill a hard on!

I love the heat balls!

So .... we should just burn wood around a campfire, and maximize the efficiencies of nature, and minimize the waste of humanity?

After all, a campfire will provide light, heat, and a cooking method, all at the same time, won't it?

As well as return the carbon to the natural cycle of life, ready to be used by other plants.

You could burn wood for heat- lots of companies offer extremely efficient wood burning stoves, that can be used for baking and cooking.

Fire isn't so good for lighting, though- compact fluorescents do a much more cost efficient job.

That IS what you were asking, right?

Firm-- dont listen to that guy.  He dries his clothes in a clothes dryer.

I like it.

I wish I would have thought of it.
