Anything Big Band, Bossa Nova, or Boogie Woogie.  He played a mean boogie woogie piano.  I miss that.

My Dad was also a big fan of  Kenny Rogers and Neil Diamond (although I cant speak to how much of that was stepmoms influence)

He also liked REO Speedwagon.

He was born in 42.   We kids would drive him crazy with the new music-  but some of it- he liked.   :-)

My Dad was born in 28.  But one day I came home from school and he had Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" in his hand, and this bizarre expression on his face.  I asked if he was OK and he said, "You know....this stuff is pretty GOOD!"  Ha.

My old man is a rocker. Loves Skynrd, The Eagles, Led Zep, Aerosmith, Clapton, all the old blues/country/rockin type of stuff. Ive actually started to get him into the White Stripes recently as well.

Before my dad drank (many years ago) he was responsible for teaching me the wonders of big band music. I still love it. Not sure he even remembers it.

My dad had every album Chet Atkins ever put out. But his favorite song was "A White Sport Coat & A Pink Carnation" by Marty Robbins. And he could really rock out on the "Oom pah pah, mow mow" part in "Elvira". Totally off-key, lol.

You're all sitting there doing it, aren't ya? [:D]

Big Band stuff, really old country like Patsy Cline era.
He has never been into a lot of the rock and the new stuff he can't stand, lol

Johnny Cash "A Boy Named Sue"

Hank Williams Sr. "Cold Cold Heart"

John Denver "Take Me Home Country Roads"

My dad was just a country boy at heart and I'm thankful to have had the chance to share some fond memories with him because of his love of this 'story-telling style' music.

AlwaysLisa -> RE: What songs did your dad like? (1/5/2011 11:51:35 AM)

Lefty Frizzell, Hank Williams Sr, and anything from the "big band" era.

My dad was fond of Big Band music (he was in the service in WW II and loved Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey, etc), traditional Country/Western, rock and roll from the 50s, crooners such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin.
