Thanks for the link. It's so sad, she attempting to move toward a more peaceful dialogue, to suffer what she has. http://www.npr.org/2011/01/12/132853985/Rep-Giffords-Wanted-To-Calm-Inflammatory-Rhetoric. I have high hopes, because she's relatively young, and seems to be making strides already in her recovery. M ETA:quote:
PyrotheClown With exception to our "fearless leaders" and a few touristy areas, the rest of DC is a low income ghetto of epic proportions(did a campaign there a few years ago, gawd was it a nightmare) . Wouldn't matter much if there were or weren't guns there, the forces that drive the crimes there would still continue to do their thing.Pyro, have you lived in/near DC? I do know that lower SW area, is very poor, and I didn't even want to drive there. I haven't been in a few years, but DC is one of my favorite cities in the world, because I literally met people from all over the world. When I lived in Alexandria, I used to go out in DC 2-4 times/week, and it's the one city I've partied in at different venues, and never once saw a fight break out in a club. I'm not saying it never happened, but I never felt unsafe in DC, except the lower SW area. I know there is a very poor, drug ridden segment there, where the majority of the crimes happen. My dad had a gun, but I never saw it. I'm ambivalent about gun ownership. I abhor violence, but feel that if one is attacked in one's home, one ought to defend oneself to the best of one's abilities. However, the farce that has occurred since Obama took office is barbaric, and makes the US look really pathetic, and unevolved to the world (IMO). People packing for rallies, to threaten politicians, and anyone who disagrees with them? Is all of that bullying, posturing, and threatening of lives necessary? Obama has not changed any gun laws, but ever since the threat of his election became eminent, people have lost their minds, and dignity. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/barackobama/5967942/Barack-Obama-faces-30-death-threats-a-day-stretching-US-Secret-Service.html. http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/2010/1126/Threats-against-Obama-Michael-Stephen-Bowden-is-just-the-latest. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0510/37726.html. quote:
There may have been more threats — the FBI won’t release information on investigations that are still open — and there will likely be more this year; Senate Sergeant at Arms Terrance Gainer says threats against members of Congress were up 300 percent in the first few months of 2010 This is insanity, and will lead the US straight to hell (self destruction) if it doesn't stop. And even if you are into guns, why would anyone be allowed 31 rounds of ammunition in public? For hunting, in parks, maybe; Otherwise, limit the amount of killing one person can do for Gods sake! M
