This is not about whether or not the world is going to end, or whatever. Nor is it about the hows and whys, or anything like that.

But let's say the world is going to end next Saturday, maybe not the world per se, but our tenure on it.

Should people be told ?

Art seems to indicate maybe that it would not be such a good idea. Movies about meteors coming or a crack in the Earth, whatever. The result predicted by those author(s) usually goes like people killing each other to get on the spaceship and things like that. Wanton criminality. Get it while the gettins' good. Eat, drink and be merry.

What do you think ?

Isn't facebook supposed to end sometime in March?
Maybe that's a sign of the coming apocolypse.

On a serious note, I don't believe everyone would turn on each other.... just that there is a minority who would.

Of course people should be told.
But, "the government" probably thinks that "they" know "better" than The People.
If it were possable, "the government" shouldn't be told!
They seem to keep thinking that they're there to dictate to The People instead of *to serve* The People.
Washington seems to need to be reminded of that on a regular basis.

No. People will not be told.

Consider how on 9-11 the people were told to stay at their desks.

consider how during katrina- people were told to go to the dome.

People will not be told.

hint- when big shots are not seen in public-  -- disappear with out cause- then get worried.

an example would be them leaving the US en mass.  No where to be found on US soil- at that point- worry.

lets suppose the underground bunkers can hold 200,000.   When that many of the elite are no where to be found- then look out.

During 3 mile Island=people only learned about it - when a Boston DJ called the mayor here.

You will NOT be told.

At the same time- during crises - data is fluent and incomplete.

What can you do now?   Well-- figure out which radio station is local to you- that serves YOUR area.  Get to know it.

Dont waste your time on TV, when it gets there.   Local radio- is more accurate.

Yes, so you could tell everyone that matters to you that you love them. Spend time with the people that matter instead of people who don't.

I, of course expected these responses. Some of you people are just too normal I guess. We'll work on that later :-) All are true and valid and a few more should be coming in, however I will modify the question slightly, well not really, more like refine it.

Base premise : You personally, and exclusively know the human race ends, soon, like in a couple of days.

This is a hypothetical situation so I claim license in the respect. This is absolutely true, there is no doubt and is provable to the entire scientific community and their Mothers. Period, it is true but very few, if any others know it.

Do you tell people ?

Most would say yes I think. But have they really thought it out ? Consider for example - your sister just had a baby last week. Or perhaps your Grandfather has twelve hours to live.

If it is totally inevitable, and everyone knows, is it right to impel them to bury hatchets, make up and be happier when they cease to exist ?

What is a few days of hapiness worth, or despair ?

To be honest, I have mixed feelings. Part of me feels like people would have a right to know so they could spend their last days with friends and family and make sure nothing important would be left unsaid. Another part of me feels like telling anyone would be inhumane (quick painless death vs slow painful death for anyone who tried to survive).

It would not be possible to tell anyone because they would not beleive you until they seen it on TV.

i'm a little bit cynical, but i would say, no.

First, because i believe that people would start freaking out and become criminals. Riots, chaos, anarchy, and all that.

Secondly, because it is irrelevant. Our tenure on Earth is gonna end on Saturday? That could just as easily happen anyway, whether we know it in advance or not. That's why you're supposed to live life like every day is your last one; because someday it will be true.

Furthermore, if you (generalised "you") believe in the afterlife, then all your loved ones will be there to hang out with (at least we hope so...lol). And if you don't believe in an afterlife, then you're just *poof* gone, erased, and it doesn't make a bit of difference what you spend your last hours doing.

Nope, don't tell anyone, just let people get on as normal, as if there is FA that can be done why cause upset, but then again what is in the future is a variable without certainty, anything can happen between the present and then, so until something happens those that know can wrangle and chew their lip with worry and the rest can go on as normal.

As let's face it each one of us on this planet does not know what the future holds for our individual selves, we don't even know with complete certainty what will happen in the next second  beyond our immediate sphere of influence so it is without sense to cause worry, so perhaps there is truth in the saying that one must live each day as if it was your last, as shit happens, we each stride into our future clueless to our destiny.

Furthermore the machines we put faith in, any mechanic will tell you they have the ability to stuff up at the most inopportune moment and the bigger the machine often the more catastophic the results from it stuffing up. Then there is people, you know, the most illogical of all creations, what may they do in the future by themselves or with machines of man's making, with calculated  intent or not.

The future is uncertain for everyone, aye, it can be calculated to create a degree of certainty, but we are not in control of everything and so, do not know what the future for us individually or all holds, so why worry about it beyond living our day to day lives.

I agree that the government shouldn't be told.
I shouldn't either.

Why is that do you suppose ?

Am wondering if the hoarders of precious metals have a different thought process beyond a natural fear of the monetary future.

Quite frankly, I would prefer not to know this. So if you are the one with the information, please keep it from me, ok? If I were the one with the information, I would tell only one other person, someone I wanted to spend my last few days with. I do try to live my life as though today is my last day here. I know from experience how fleeting life is. It is way too short, but it is also waaaaay too long to spend it miserable. At this point in my life I have no regrets. Bring it on!!!
