Change in Earth's Rotation May Mean New Zodiac Sign For You

I don't care....I'm still a Gemini! [sm=oddballs.gif]

Im too old to change now dammit[;)]

petmonkey -> RE: Are you sure that's your sign? (1/13/2011 7:58:28 PM)

According this, i'm now (or would be if i was born now? This isn't entirely clear from the article to me.) an Ophiuchus, the Snake Holder.  i'm interested to know more.  *Cuddles up to her friend, the Goooogle*

I would have changed from a Capricorn to a Sagittarius [&:]

WASHINGTON - For those of you who reads a horoscope every day, you may want to recheck what your Zodiac sign is.

I think they need to hire a new editor.....

petmonkey -> RE: Are you sure that's your sign? (1/13/2011 8:50:14 PM)

So far, i've found that Rob Brezsny dismisses the idea. i adore his horoscopes, so it's worth noting for me.
Found here:
http://blogs.babble.com/strollerderby/2011/01/13/ophiuchus-is-the-new-zodiac-sign-a-scam/

A very brief article about the sign, here:
http://newsfeed.time.com/2011/01/13/ophiuchus-what-all-saggitarius-and-capricorns-need-to-know-about-their-new-zodiac/?iid=nfmostpopular

A more in depth article, here:
http://the-red-thread.net/ophiuchus2.html

i find horoscopes fun.  i see them as yet another system to use in order to understand people and the world around us, whether i "believe" or "disbelieve" in the strictest sense is sort of irrelevant.  i do think that the label of Sagittarius is a reasonably accurate shorthand description of me, as much as the short-test version of INFP.  Besides, i like the idea of being a Centaur, mythological beastie good with a bow and all.
While i can't entirely relate to Joesph,  i don't entirely mind considering myself in relation to stories of Imhotep, Enki or the concept of healer and "snake tamer".

edit: i spelled Brezsny's last name incorrectly. Feh.

Those people in Minnesota have way too much time on their hands.....

I went from Aries to Pisces. Could be fun? Could be why I changed from INTP to ISFP?

subinlife -> RE: Are you sure that's your sign? (1/13/2011 9:24:36 PM)

From Libra to Virgo..........Think I'll stick to the Libra.
As Lucylastic says, too old to change now.

Termyn8or -> RE: Are you sure that's your sign? (1/13/2011 10:33:00 PM)

From the article :

"WASHINGTON - For those of you who reads a horoscope "

The grammar police here could tear the author to shreds.

However IIRC, your sign is your sign, that's it. It depends on when you were born, including the year. The changes should only affect those born later.

From what I understand, there are 2 different types of horoscope systems used anyways. Some use the western version, while others will use the one that is used in the east.I will stick with the one I know best.I am a Gemini and I am keeping it that way!!

Lockit -> RE: Are you sure that's your sign? (1/14/2011 7:31:43 AM)

I'm a Libra, I doubt even with a world spin, I am going to change. Well, unless I fall off.

This is a problem for me though... I won't date a Scorpio or Pisces. We do not do well! Now I have to watch out for four signs? This so sucks! [:D]

mbes -> RE: Are you sure that's your sign? (1/14/2011 7:37:11 AM)

Uh, no. I'm a Leo, have been since birth, and will be til I die. That's all there is to it! [:D]

Musicmystery -> RE: Are you sure that's your sign? (1/14/2011 7:52:34 AM)

Astrologers and astronomers alike have known for over 2000 years that the signs and the constellations were not in the same place.

Old news. Astrologers go by the signs, astronomers by the constellations.

To add to what Musicmystery said...

If I calculated properly, the dates of a‘Tropical Astrology’ chart are accurate for about 1680 years ago.

Also, Ophiuchus isn't new either.

I'm currious as to why it is being mentioned now, and why it is being reported as if it were something new.

From what i could gather during my Google-gasm, it's because Parke Kunkle, Minneapolis Community and Technical College Professor and board member of the Minnesota Planetarium Society wrote a new article.  The MPS's website also supports the website Bad Astronomy, which main purpose is to support the science of Astronomy partially by debunking Astrology.

MPS website:

http://www.mplanetarium.org/

Bad Astronomy:

http://www.badastronomy.com/bad/misc/astrology.html

Regardless of whether the Babylonians neatened-up their calendar by dumping it as an astrological sign or whether it doesn't fit into Western mapping and is therefore irrelevant, i still think it's amusing to navel-gaze using myth and ancient history as the. . . metadata. [8D]

But then, i don't create natal charts for a living.  i'd probably be in need of two fingers of Jameson and some Alka Seltzer (but not mixed together, that would be blasphemy) if my clients were in a twist about this.

Lol, same for me with aquarius...that sign is a hard limit for me to date, so I am thankful that this calendar didnt move me into the opposit direction....independent if that would be true or not [:D]

Michael75 -> RE: Are you sure that's your sign? (1/15/2011 7:10:53 AM)

Wood hare and proud of it.

Also there is a complex argument explaining how this has all been taken into account already with the 12-sign zodiac but it makes my eyes glaze over.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Are you sure that's your sign? (1/15/2011 7:38:32 AM)

noooo not here too!!!!! i just wrote a huge rant on fetlife about this. hahaha =p

if you follow the tropical zodiac (which most westerners do), your sign hasn't changed. the tropical zodiac is more to do with equinoxes and dates. the sidereal zodiac involves constellations and the sun and yeah it does change, but it's what's mostly used in the East.

so no -- your sign hasn't magically changed.
no, it doesn't matter if you were born after 2009.
