Does he occasionally post on topic? I'm lost as to what my tattoos - facial or otherwise - have to do with this thread.

Depends what you mean by "on topic"; while his replies are very occasionally in the same ball park as the question, they're generally so gibbering and right-wing that they don't really have a lot to do with the actual matter at hand.

Or, indeed, reality, as most people would understand it.

AquaticSub -> RE: Compliments (1/16/2011 3:18:06 PM)

That is about what I figured. *goes back to planning her next tattoo*

That guy sent me CM mail and I accidently clicked on his profile. He thought I perved him.. bleh.

He strikes me as the sort of guy whose only lover is, and forever will be, his hand.

Heh heh..

I can see it now." He beat me for hours. It was great then he tried to cuddle. The nerve. I have never been so..."

*snickers* That isn't terribly far from the situation the quote comes from.

Lol. I thought so.

Why is this frustrating me so much?

i think you answered your own question here some where:

quote:

My ex partner never complimented me at all and I got used to living with a man who couldn't show appreciation. . . I have regained my love of the kitchen and my collection of good recipes. Its a confidence thing, at least for me.

As a person who grew up in the "wrong sort of home", i can tell you that DesFIP's, CaringandReal's, and SexyBossy's advice is 100% if you want to keep inviting this friend around and persuade her to act in a manner more in-line with your view of polite behavior, if in fact, that is the problem.  Or you could choose not to invite her around anymore, if you feel you have had your fill of rudeness from people altogether.  How important is keeping this person in your circle to you?

Out of curiosity: does she compliment anything at all or did her reserve about such matters only appear during meals and the wedding dress?  She might be socially awkward, rather than an arse.  She might not feel comfortable saying anything she perceives as a negative statement and only sometimes comfortable verbalizing compliments (and yes, going for second helpings is a compliment).  Completely your choice whether these behaviors are worthy of your time and attention.

The cuddling was not negotiated!!! I felt violated!!! Violated I tell you!!

(in all seriousness, the top was being perfectly wonderful. I had just forgotten to tell them that I don't usually cuddle after a scene unless it's with Val. So funny story but really my fault [:)] )

Tantriqu -> RE: Compliments (1/16/2011 3:57:28 PM)

But will you spend one or 15 minutes on the story, and return or not return the compliment? THAT's the question.
And a REAL narcissist with a dayjob, like one of my siblings, will refuse to wear a watch and depend on others to tell them the time, or believe that the meeting can't possibly start without them so it doesn't matter if they're late.

In my case it's coz my phone has a clock, and so does my work phone, and so does my PC, and so does my laptop, so I figured a while back that wearing a watch to work is a bit superfluous.

Depends on the story. Some take longer than others. I always say thank you but I don't offer fake compliment so sometimes I compliment in return and sometimes I don't. More often, due to the nature of the watches, it leads to a discussion of mutual interest in the company.

My point being that your test is incredibly flawed. Watches are a prime object to have stories and personal sentiment attached to them, such as being passed down from one generation to another, received as a promotion or award for service, a gift from a loved one, etc.

A much better test would be to just talk to them without some artificial test and see how often they take about themselves compared to how often they ask about you.

Lol that too. And despite my collection of watches, I frequently don't wear one so as not to mess up my nice ones. I hate the look of a cheap watch, my car has a clock, my phone has a clock, my friends' phones have clocks, and most people don't pitch a fit about being asked for the time.

It's one of my favorite signature lines.

Bingo!

To the OP: Maybe she has a bit of a competitive jealous streak or maybe she's just bitter?..It could be she doesn't appreciate things other people do for her or she wasn't given compliments earlier in life...Could be a number of other things.

Damn man who knows for sure unless A: There's more to go on or B: You ask her and see what her reply is.

kalikshama -> RE: Compliments (1/16/2011 4:57:49 PM)

I propose a corollary to Godwin's Law and the recently minted Philos's Law (the one who first mentions a typo loses the argument): the one who first brings physical appearance into the debate is a loser.

Well, that was random.

I see it's not just the political threads that benefit from CV's--shall we say--unique perspective.

BossyShoeBitch -> RE: Compliments (1/16/2011 5:43:55 PM)
