This is a two-part question. First off, do you keep a journal? Personally i've kept a journal for almost as long as i can remember (the very first one i ever got had Taz on it =p haha) If you do, what do you think the benefits of journaling are? Do you keep a physical one or an online one (if you have an online one, do you have recommendations of blogging platforms)? Does your D/M give you writing assignments, or is it mostly up to you? If you don't, care to share any of your reasoning? I do keep a journal. It's a habit I got into in high school, mostly because when you're a Dude there are aspects of your life you learn to keep private. I mean, the jocks I got drunk with wouldn't have been all that jazzed if I started talking to them about Byron (although really he was all about getting liquored up and getting laid) or JD Salinger or Jawbreaker or any of my other semi-secret obsessions. Even after I started being a little more open about who I was and what I was into, it still felt comforting to scribble out my thoughts at the end of the day if for no other reason than to get them in order and to give myself a record to look back on. Apart from occasionally blogging or posting journals on a few sites like this one, I never got into the online journaling thing. LiveJournal seemed like ten pounds of drama in an eight pound sack and besides, the whole point of me keeping a journal was to keep my thoughts private (or share them with a very few people) not to spill The Dude's innermost thoughts to a whole community of attention seekers and drama junkies. A few times in relationships I've been given writing assignments, though these assignments don't always end happily. When I'm told to "Write what you really feel" I take that literally and the results are sometimes tragicomic...
