I loved that program. For anyone who enjoyed it half as much as i did, I highly recommend "Connections," a similar series Burke did in the late 70s. At the time, I thought that it was one of the best things ever done on television, and even 30 years later I'd be hard-pressed to think of many programs that were better. In each episode, Burke presented a seemingly relatively minor historical event from ancient times, or an obscure invention or scientific discovery, and followed it forward through the centuries to show how it set in motion a cascade of events and technological developments that led directly to some aspect of modern society that is fundamental to the way we live today. Every minute of every episode was nothing short of spellbinding. I believe the book is available on Amazon, but unfortunately I don't think it's out on DVD at this time. Pity.
