I've never seen Fight Club . . .

Don't bother*. Most overrated POS in years.

All style, no substance, and it's telling that every single pseudo-intellectual I've ever met loves it to death :)

*well obviously do bother, but you know what I mean :)

The first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club.

Which should be true since that movie sucks. Ha-ha.

OK, what's your favourite unpleasantly violent hand-to-hand fight in any film?  Give your reasons.  One of mine is John Cusack's fight to the death in Grosse Pointe Blank, in a school hallway, with Mirror in the Bathroom by The English Beat playing in the background.  I love the sudden and completely unexpected start to it.  Two professional killers - couldn't get a better match.

One is from the movie troy. The scene where hector is fighting Achilles. Every move by Achilles was fluid. Defensive .moves led into offensive moves naturally. Great choreography.

Another is from the movie the way of the gun. Two guys are sitting outside a club talking and this load mouth girl tells them to get of their car. They ignore her. She brings her boyfriend into the argument. The girl is talking a whole lot of shit and the boyfriend goes up to confront them. The girlfriend end up getting repeatedly punched in the nose. Funny scene.

Fight Club Devotee Says (in whiny, Fight Club Devotee Voice): "but man you just don't get it!”.

I get that it sucks like a Thai prossie. I get that just fine.

Actually, in a genuinely funny related note, in among all the bullshit, pseudo-intellectual reviews of it on IMDB there used to be one that said simply “This film sucked. If you liked this film, you suck. You may now write 10,000 sucky words telling me how it didn’t suck, and that I suck, but you’ll still suck afterwards, and so will this film” ... but they removed it, presumably after complaints :)

One of my best friends, a very clever and otherwise fine fellow, absolutely loves it, and my non-loving of it is a constant source of pain to him. He’s tried on numerous occasions to convince me it’s a modern classic, but for some reason we always end up in a “it’s shit!”/”is not!” loop, so we agreed a while back not to touch that subject ever again ... this means we can discuss any subject you care to name, from murder to flower arranging, but not Fight Club :)

Natural Born Killers, check out the scene where she asks the redneck "Are you flirting with me?" just before she proceeds to turn him into mince meat...

Tony jaa is the shit. I love that scene in "the protector" where they are having a nice conversation, eating and drinking. And then all of a sudden a guy flies up against the wall and ass-kicking ensues.

Right, I think everyone will readily agree that this fight scene stands supreme above all others:

Ah well, some of us have to be pseudo-intellectuals to let you true intellectuals shine your brilliance on us all.

Pffft. I have no pretence towards intellectualism whatsoever. Some of my friends are genuinely intellectual and I wouldn't even attempt to match them in the noggin department.

for all you tony jaa fans, be sure to check out more Thai cinema

Don't get me wrong, Tony jaa is great, but he's just one of many aspiring stunt men to come out of thai martial arts films in the last few years

Even their non martial arts films are pretty good

lol!

I've just thought of another good one though - "Kiss Of The Dragon":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlWoEm9uKDw

And that's one of the more genteel scenes ... it also features the fantastic Bert Kwouk (Cato from the Pink Panther films). And people getting offed with chopsticks.

Quality.
