OK, so this is my first posting on the CM forums. I know it has taken a long time, however it is only now that I require some information that I assume some Doms here might have some info on...

I am playing with my submissive 'properly' for the first time this week, despite us incorporating a lot of other elements of BDSM in the past. I wanted to do some sensory deprivation by playing music while I am busily working away.

How would you approach this from a 'first time' perspective? I know what music my sub does and doesn't like - however I feel that what I select should be my choice with her submission taken into account - and that being at the forefront of my decision.

Does this sound 'correct' - if you know what I mean? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Welcome to the forums!

Yes, it's your choice. I believe the music should enhance the scene, rather than detract or distract. If I'm busy thinking "what the hell is that?" or "I hate that!' I'm out of my body and all your hard work is wasted.

So I vote for something you both like.

If you really want sensory deprivation, go with earplugs.

I've never complained about the music except for the time I realized the song was on a loop and we'd been listening to the same Nickelback song for an hour. It was such a great Scene that we were oblivious :)

Oh my god... Yes, that must have been an amazing scene. I would have picked up on a Nickelback song playing after a few seconds, let alone an hour!

Thank you for your info!

Try Dissolved Girl by Massive Attack. Works every time.

Just remember that if it is something that bothers her, she may well not be able to get into what you're doing. Myself, I don't want any vocals because then my attention is on the song and not on him and what he's doing. At which point I can't enjoy or even tolerate what he's doing.

Since this is your first time playing together, don't assume you can do whatever you want because if it doesn't work, she won't want to play again. You want it to be a good experience, not a bad. I wouldn't go for sensory deprivation if you aren't sure she enjoys it. And I can tell you from my own experience that the first time he tried that on me, I freaked out. I had no idea how much time had passed, if he was still there and I panicked. Which ends the play here as panic attacks are always bad things.

The first time should be a learning experience. For both of you.

I'm highly affected by music.  Just a suggestion that if you play stuff she doesn't like, you run the risk of distracting her to the point of annoyance.  There's just some music that puts me in an agitated head space, and if I had to listen to it while he was going to town on me, it might take away from his experience as well as mine.  I'd suggest playing music you both like, to start.  She might already have some nervousness going on, and to toss in an element that skews her frame of mind on top of that might not be the best choice.

Sure, "technically" you can say what you listen to is your choice.  But will your choice be the best choice for both of you to make the most out of a first time play day?

as someone who plays quite hard for long periods of time, I have to say that music bugs the hell out of me. It either distracts me so I can't focus on him and what he is doing, or I float into subspace, only to have some annoying loud chord wreck the floating feeling, or I realise I've zoned out cos I'm at the end of a song that is playing and I don't recall it starting.

I prefer to focus on him, us and the play. Keep the music for the snuggly stuff afterwards :)

I love music when I am scening but it has to be something you both enjoy. I agree with with the person who said 'choose something without lyrics'.
I often used to use film theme music in my dungeon. Some of the horror film music is great but I suggest you get to know her better first! I would go for ambient.

Greetings Dreaddom,

I concur with NuevaVida's comments and suggest that you implement the music during short intervals initially to allow you both to get accustomed to it. And while some may never do this I would elicit feedback to see what songs amplified her feelings and those that were more distracting or mood kills. Good luck!

Namaste,

~porcelaine

Ravel's Bolero can be powerful, but in context with sensory dep, not good. Better with flogging.

[minihijack] Saw a snippet from Benny Hill a few days ago and thought it would make for a fun dungeon change of pace. Think master in full leather, including "belt of floggers" chasing a nekkid submissive to the tune of "Yackety Sax."
[/minihijack]

I agree with non vocals, ambient background to begin with, gauge her reactions.

I agree, music is distracting. I would rather hear my moans and screams.

Music   -  meh!   Music is for the dom   -  for me , i can hear it until i start going......   then it isn't there any more, so playing music for me isn't worth while .     Having said that, playing something relaxing to begin with can help me relax - at least , initially. *grins*

Just for a different POV. My sub absolutely hates Lady GaGa, so when ever she has been a bad girl, I of course will play Lady GaGa over and over for the first hour or so. Sadistic, Yes, effective, HELL Yes!

Erotic sounds of our mutually shared intimate exchanges induce and increase our delighting in one another rather than any electronically produced lyrics or music could possibly accomplish. Although at other certain times we both enjoy music greatly.

Take Care!

I often use 'Tadasana' by Fit Factory during scenes (available on Amazon). It is meditative and tonal but without melody or lyrics. I would say it helps both partners focus. Keep it at low volume and it shouldn't be a bit distracting or intrusive.

I ended up using 'Moon Safari'by Air - very little lyrics, quite ambient,  and it really did get her in the right zone. The play went very well, I'm happy to say. I was going to use something a little harsher, but I can use that next time. I think the input from people who suggested I keep it simple for the first time together were right on the money with their suggestions. Thank you to everyone!

Sirs, I am a submissive and I actually have white noise. I started with a minute or two of white noise and doubled and doubled until I created the file 250mb (which is the maximum memory with this mp3 player. I organize the mp3 player to repeat all and the mp3 will play white noise forever. The only limit I have is the AAA battery but it is rechargeable. So I bring and extra battery and a charger. With an earphone plugged in I can not hear anything but loud white noise so Master can have conversations with others and I am never able to hear voices.

If you want some kind of "white noise music" I can suggest Fripp & Eno "The Heavenly Music Corporation" This "song" is 20.55 and it is just a very droning song. That is the whole first side of the album "The Pusstfooting". The other side is "Swastika Girls" and that is a droning song and this is 18.43. If you want something really bizarre try "Yawa Em Ekat Ot Gnimoc Er'yeht"" The backward song of Napoleon XIV's "They're Coming to Take Me Away" on the album  "Second Coming". That can drive a slave crazy if that runs over and over again for hours.

I hope some of my suggestions are helpful.

Thank you very much Sirs

My preference is Bach's Organ pieces, especially those used in the old hammer Dracula films. These pieces set a mood bordering on evil and works on so many levels of the psyche.
