Wherein threats of violence are met with kowtowing and dhimmitude: http://www.nationalpost.com/news/canada/National+Archives+cancels+screening+Iranian+documentary+after+threats/4128848/story.html

Appeasement only encourages them.

Much as I hate to interrupt someone's right wing xenophobia (is that redundant?) about anything that happens outside their own borders, this shocking, shocking outrage didn't last long.

Heritage Minister James Moore says the show will go on. - the Globe and Mail

"According to his press secretary, Mr. Moore started working on figuring out how the issue could be corrected as soon as heard the screening was in doubt. He has since instructed the Archives to honour its commitment to show the film while taking all appropriate steps to ensure security."

Fox News will issue instructions later this morning on the next outrage.

Here's a thought: I know that the American right are besotted with the word "dhimmi" and other terms derived from it, but maybe you should wait until you're describing somebody living as a second class citizen in a muslim country before you start throwing it around? The coptics in Egypt are living in a state of dhimmitude, the Canadians, not so much.

Continually misprisioning a word with a specific meaning just makes you look like you have no idea what you're talking about, and tempts people to start using that quotation from The Princess Bride...

Oh Canada, Our home and native land....

Maybe the USA can become "South Canada"!!!What a great idea. All of the far right Republicans can then pack up and move over to the Middle East.Just think, the Middle East would be perfect for Republicans.Religous extremists run the show,Women have no rights, everyone has guns and there are no taxes.Sounds like a haven for the Republicans!!

Charles6682 -> RE: Oh! Canada & the religion of peace (1/19/2011 12:31:39 PM)

Then when America becomes "South Canada",we can all celebrate by smoking joints because Canada dosen not care!!Maybe let some gay couples get married because Canada does not care!!We all get universal healthcare!!!Sounds like a good deal to me.

Marc2b -> RE: Oh! Canada & the religion of peace (1/19/2011 12:47:19 PM)

There is a down side to us becoming "South Canada." Do you really want a Tim Hortons every twenty-feet? Also, Ive yet to meet a Canadian who can make a chicken wing that doesn't taste like shit. [:)]

Arpig -> RE: Oh! Canada & the religion of peace (1/19/2011 12:50:25 PM)

Actually I recently got a whole bag of chicken wings that I have no idea how to cook properly - if you have a good recipe Marc2b, please either post it or cmail it to me.

calamitysandra -> RE: Oh! Canada & the religion of peace (1/19/2011 12:54:40 PM)

Please post it, Marc. Oldest loves the stuff.

Marc2b -> RE: Oh! Canada & the religion of peace (1/19/2011 12:55:58 PM)

Sorry, I can't help ya. I didn't say I knew how to make decent chicken wings (my cooking skills do go much beyond scrambled eggs), just that I yet to meet a Canadian who can. My recomendation is to head across the border, find a good restaurant, and ask them to help ya out. If you can, go to the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, they're the original and still the best.

FR

According to Jeff Smith (The Frugal Gourmet), the original recipe for "Buffalo" wings was one 1/4 lb stick of butter and 1 to 2 tablespoons of Tobasco sauce.  In a large saute' pan melt the butter and add the Tobasco, plop in wing pieces and grill over medium-high heat for 10 minutes turning the wings several times to coat them well.   Serve with bleu cheese dip, and cut celery pieces.  Quite simple, and very good wings will result, I know first hand as this was my "Superbowl" party staple for a few years.

Since marrying my wife we've expanded the menu from wings to sausage scallopine, and or chili, along with wings, and chips and dips, but that gets expensive to do every year so we've cut back a bit and only do it every three or four years now.  Still a good time is had by all when we host and no one ever leaves hungry.

Gastronomically,

Funny even for you, and that's saying something.

Here's a thought: the meanings of words change. For example, some time ago (like, yesterday) misprision was a noun (don't make me define gerund) and meant something much more than subtly different than what I intuit was your intended meaning.

Here's another thought: my use of the word dhimmitude was entirely proper: "Dhimmitude is a neologism first found in French denoting an attitude of concession, surrender and appeasement towards Islamic demands." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dhimmitude

I yield to your greater knowledge of The Princess Bride.

If you can't deep fry the wings, the best way to cook wings IMO, the best way is a hybrid cooking method. This is the recipe I use.

I suppose if you think "dhimmi" sounds like a French term, you'll believe anything.
(And I wasn't using misprision in the legal sense.)

kdsub -> RE: Oh! Canada & the religion of peace (1/19/2011 2:51:02 PM)

Myself I see little difference between us...or perhaps I should say we are more alike then not. If you were to take a poll and list what is most important in life then compare the results they would match on the whole.

This is because Canada's majority roots are in the US. We think alike…talk alike…and look alike…we are alike.

Canadians are just as independent...proud…patriotic…fair minded…and politically volatile as we are…we are alike. They are a young country still filled with the pioneering sprit that was required to conquer and civilize a wild challenging wilderness.

On the whole they did a good job and there is no denying they did it better then we did in some areas.

I think most Americans and Canadians appreciate the friendship and support we have given each other over the years.

I marinate them overnight in Italian dressing. then a light dusting with flour and either grill them or deep fry.
