What that means, of course, is very much open to debate.

Generally speaking it means that one person gives up total power to another to dominate/manage their life. I have also heard it used to mean a "no limits" but temporary situation. Personally, I don't think a total (100 percent) power exchange is reality based. We do live in a society with certain laws after all and nobody but the mentally insane really wants a no limits situation.
