ORIGINAL: rulemylife I think the first question is why anyone should be under surveillance while in a mall. Personally I am not too keen on it, but I do understand that the shops in a mall suffer from shop lifters, that people in malls also have their pockets picked, and you want to identify the criminals or if security personnel sees a pick pocket they can track and stop him... So it does make sense... On the other hand most of the time the monitors are not manned, I recall a couple of years ago I had my pocket picked with the old trick of somebody behind me with a pram, I didn't see it, took a step backwards, was terribly worried I hurt the child, made sure the baby in the stroller was OK, while somebody liberated my purse. Now the shop didn't find anything on their tape, when I reported it to the police they told me that a gang is operating in the area... So I canceled all the cards but this is how I found out that some cards actually have the pin in the magnetic strip (hoobloodyray, makes so much sense to have a pin if the criminals have pin readers), but I got a list of the "hole in the walls" where they tried it from Amex, Visa and Master Card, of course I gave that list to the police and suggested they might check the CCTV footage of the banks. Apparently the cop I spoke to wasn't one of the more clever ones, he asked me why I would like a picture of the pickpockets... I was bit gobsmacked and said "Errr, your colleague said there is a gang operating in the area, I thought YOU might be interested in having CCTV footage of the criminals, you know so you can possible catch them?" Answer "Oh alright, I see what you mean..." It made me wonder a bit about the the IQ that is needed to be a cop....
