Status: offline 		More to the point-  my cat does not shed.   If I wanted a new cat- that also does not shed- how would I achieve this?

Status: offline 		Hairless cats do have some hair. They do not shed as much, but they are not for everyone. The hairless breeds tend to be higher energy cats, and some are more chatty. Their look freaks out some. They also tend to be very expensive.

Short haired cats shed less than medium or long haired cats. Brushing your cat daily will help keep the shedding down.

It's not the color (tabby is a color), it's the breed, fyi. Tabby color comes in long haired cats  and cats with no hair.

let me explain.  My current cat- does not shed.   I had her 1.5 years.  She simply does not shed.

I do not know why.    She is also a dynamic personality.  I did not even want a cat.  But once she was here a while- I seen how care free she is- so I kept her rather then send her to my friends as was initially planned.

Your kitty is still probably shedding at least a little, but because he or she is not a heavy shedding cat you don't notice it. (Sort of like people shed hair but we don't tend to notice)

Your cat does shed, Hunky.
She may be a fastidious groomer in which case she could simply be swallowing the hair.
All furred animals shed, even you.

Even IF her coat did not change by the season she would have to shed to get rid of old hair which makes room for new hair growth; just like you.

We shed skin cells and hair, just like they do.
She may not shed very much and she may groom herself well, but she does shed.

Status: offline 		She probably does shed but just a little every day. Similar to you brushing your hair and having a few hairs stay on the brush daily. What she doesn't do is blow her coat twice a year when the seasons change. That's when you really notice all that hair.

I don't believe there is any relationship between breed and blowing the coat, and that's what you're looking for. However if you brush her daily, the loose hair will primarily stick to the brush, allowing you to toss it easily. If you start brushing her now, you will discover she does shed a little.

Status: offline 		She's shedding.....if you have plain uncarpted floors, run a dust mop over it.  Take some duct tape and run it over your furniture.  There will be hair, it may not be much, but like Celeste and Angelika said, she's shedding.  She's even shedding her whiskers......I find those little spikes all over the place.....I even drove the sharp end into my foot once by stepping on it.

If you don't find alot of hair, then I'd invest in a good hairball formula food to help her pass the hair she's swallowing. 

And yes, tabby is a color....you more than likely have a domestic shorthair, the "mutt" of the cat breeds.  My Squeaks, a Maine Coon, has tabby markings (stripes) on her face and lower parts of her legs.  She even has the little "M" on her forehead.

Status: offline 		I think it is the amount of "dander" which is saliva and/or skin flakes (now I am not sure from reading more articles) that cause allergies mostly and not necessarily the amount of hair...I found this article online about it.

If you get a black cat, he or she will be sure to shed on anything light colored.
If you get a white cat, he or she will be sure to shed on anything dark colored.
And all other cats will shed on everything, especially fresh laundry.....and particularly on your suit before you head out to an important meeting....

I am not allergic to any cats.  I just dont want to be cleaning up after one all the time.  Which, due to her not shedding is not a problem.
