I'm not sure where I stand.  On the one hand, I feel like public servants should have the option of working a second job.  But secretary of state should be one of those jobs that demand complete dedication, aside from personal commitments.

He should have disclosed that he would moonlight in his campaign (if he didnt). A lot of state officials are paid for full time jobs that dont require it. At 68k Id assume that CO's SOS role is pretty minimal.

Not from, CO but if in MI some government official wanted supplemental income I wouldn't mind it as long as there were was no conflict of interest. I could see working in an election law firm being a conflict if he were say, state AG, but not Secretary of State. As far as him spreading himself too thin, it's just five extra hours a week. Just my two cents.

In most states, including CO, elections are under the Department of State. Whether there is a conflict depends on his role at the law firm too, but it certainly doesnt smell right if he didnt disclose it in his campaign.

He has claimed that he did state that in his campaign but nobody has verified that and there are no written records one way or the other.

Steven, wouldn't it be fun to hire a Sectary of State part-time? I don't know what they could do though. Maybe impress your neighbors?
Stand at your front door and greet people if you had a party? Run errands? "I'll send my *SECRETARY OF STATE* over to pick it up."
Maybe call you at work to impress your boss? "Ah, Steven,.....The *Secretary of State* would like to speak with you, line 3!"
"Gessler or Clinton?"
"Oh Steven,.....there's going to be a new position comming up that pays substantially more....."
This could be a "good" thing!
