Is it inherently tasteless, or just tasteless because a Kenyan democrat told it?
Would the same joke be tasteless if Sorebutt McCain had won in 2008, and told it last night?

To the ACLU?  Yes it still would have been tasteless.  He was making a joke out of something that is civil liberty infringement.  They have lawsuits in the works and they protested the pat downs.  Pres. Obama made a joke about the policies instead of doing anything about them and essentially was saying that they would continue.

The joke is in poor taste.

LOL, YOU are offended and complaining about that joke?
YOU?

Seriously, this has to be a joke.

The joke was funny as hell, and I laughed.

Being molested by the state is funny to you?

If they thought that was bad, I hope they didn't catch David Lettermans top 10 last night.

I'm not aware that Letterman ever took an oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.

From the ACLU web site...

While promoting his high-speed rail plan during last night's State of the Union speech, President Obama quipped: "For some trips, it will be faster than flying — without the pat-down."

Ha!

We, of course, had something to say about that. So we tweeted in response : "President Obama makes funny about TSA pat-downs, but the violations of the Constitution are NO JOKE! http://bit.ly/gB4q5D ".

This morning, Raw Story wrote: "Obama’s TSA pat-downs joke infuriates ACLU."

"Infuriates" might be a tad strong, but jokes aside, President Obama has the power to stop these shockingly intrusive invasions of privacy . We've received more than 1,000 complaints by travelers, many of whom describe the pat-downs as humiliating, abusive and degrading. And these pat-downs are the alternative to going through a machine that sees through your clothes . Is this any choice at all?

They dont seem too mad about it. They make their point quite well... and even recognize it as it was intended to be.. a joke. Their position is exactly the one I would expect them to take.

It is also a lie.    Scan/pats are planned for trains, malls, sports events.

It doesnt matter if you believe its a lie or not.

The accusation in the OP is wrong. The ACLU stated so themselves. [8|]

I am telling you that scan/pats are planned to expand to trains, busses, malls, public areas.

This is nothing to joke about.   State molestation of its people.

tazzygirl -> RE: 01-26-2011: Obama’s TSA pat-downs joke infuriates ACLU During his third State of the Union address (1/27/2011 5:55:33 AM)

Thats your opinion. You are welcome to it. It still has nothing to do with the OP.

The ACLU is not infuriated, as they have said so on their web site.

Agreed.  It was a very smart way to tackle a situation to try to defuse it.

Diffuse it?   OMG no.   It did anything but diffuse it.  This is a very serious 4th amendment issue- with grave consequences.

Scan/pats are coming to trains, buses, shopping, sports events!

So his comment is also a lie.  Think 7-7 bomber.    Scan/pats are a pathetic violation of ones privacy.
