Couldn't have said it better myself. I have various lengths of chains and I think every leather cuff imaginable...if you can think it, you can figure out a way. I do have a short piece of soft rope however, just in case...(weg).

And he is way to damn creative with them! You are a very baaaddddd man.

Thank you all.  i obviously feel the same way, since rope is a hard limit of mine.

If you don't mind, why is rope a hard limit?    I don't think I've ever come across anyone with that as one of their hard limits.  Lots with no interest, but never a hard limit.

Evanesce -> RE: No Rope Bondage (5/17/2006 8:35:59 PM)

We've never used rope for anything other than tying cuffs to bedposts for the night.  If we're wanting bondage, there are far more interesting ways of immobilizing someone.  A straitjacket, for example.  Or a set of inflatable splints.  Perhaps a plaster body cast.  Then, of course, there are the usual chains and straps and just about anything else one can imagine.  Personally, I like duct tape.

While I would like to learn to tie all  of those fancy knots... I found using rope took more time and aggravation, when it's so easy to use chains, cuffs, clips... and chains have such a nice sound when the submissive is wriggling around even a little.   Then there's Saran wrap, all kinds of bondage/vet/duct  tape, scarves and clothing.  A nice bondage piece can be made with  a long-sleeved, slightly over-sized sweatshirt.  It's kind of fun to tie someone up with his own clothing.

Sowing thread slipped around a double nipple peircing, that is then attached to an eyehook in the wall. This garuntees that no one is going anywhere. Well at least in my expeirence.. hehe..

i have the center of my lip pierced, and when Daddy wants me to stay put he will tie a sewing thread thru my lip to an eye hook in the wall, if i move it will braek without any damage, but he can see if i break it too.

Miss Lorelei,

No fancy knots are really needed for rope bondage. The basic rope harness is pretty nice and easy to do, plus it doesn't require any fancy knots. But You're right. There certainly are all knds of great ways to do bondage without rope. I'm a bondage nut anyway. Rope, cuffs, chain, You name it, it all works for me.

As a matter of fact, when I was much younger and in the beginning stages of my exploration, I used to do a good bit of self bondage. One of the things I experimented with was trying to make a makeshift straight jacket of sorts out of one of my sweatshirts. It sort of worked, but it was difficult to do with just one person.

Bondage can be done with any thing your choose, on the other hand Shibari (Japanese Rope Bondage) by it's very definition requires rope..

IronBear comments on Shibari being done with chains, I'd have to question the esthetics of any knot done in chain, not to mention the danger of "untieing" a chain knot if your sub is in distress.

By it's very definition Shibari is Japanese "Rope" Bondage.

FWIW, YMMV, Yadda, Yadda, yadda

G'day DV8T,

I'm still a complete newby regarding shibari, but one to the areas I looked at was via a link in John Warren's personal site to a guy who was using shibari woith rope first and had a section of chain. Ties were not used but clips were substituted leaving an excelent visual effect. This way it is easy to release the subject or adjust the tightness of the "tie". On a non BDSM aspect, manys the time when I've used chain to secure both oitems and people (to a much lesser degree) and to stop a tie from slipping I've used cordage to bind link to link in order to avchorethe free end of the chain with success... I guess this could be transfered to a play situation as long as you have a sharp knife ready to cut the cordage in emergencies..

Rope isn't so bad, and it can easily be thrown in the washing machine in case any messes arise, but I am a bit on the impatient side when it comes to wanting a  submissive to be immobile.  Silly boy... 'straitjackets' work best when you aren't putting one on yourself.  Perhaps a demo is in order.

Miss Lorelei,

But...but, rope is so much fun! And like You said, easy to wash! Try that with Your leather cuffs, Ma'am! [:)]

Yes, Ma'am, I suppose You're right about the straightjackets. I just might need a nice demonstration.

becca333 -> RE: No Rope Bondage (5/19/2006 1:11:05 AM)

I've never had rope used on me.  Silk scarves are good - they don't do any damage, they're more than strong enough, and you wear them afterwards - all the time being reminded of the scenes.  Lovely mindfuck.

Handcuffs are fun too - nothing says 'he cares' like fur-covered handcuffs.
