Dugway reportedly on lockdown
Dugway Proving Ground, an army testing facility in Tooele County, is reportedly on lockdown. The facility was put on lockdown since 5:25 p.m. Wednesday, though neither Army nor county officials have given any further information. Dugway, which the Army calls "the nation's premiere chemical/biological proving ground," serves as a test facility for biological and chemical weapon defense systems as well as for Army Reserve and National Guard maneuver training.

Better safe than sorry. A commendable response by the CO of the base.

He will catch crap but tough. I think he did the right thing.

Some idiot not following protocol can cause one shitstorm for everyone.   I am sure the base response was swift and complete.   Something like that can be started at any level in the chain of command but the CO is the one who catches hell for it.   The top of the chain can be very lonely

I don't see the issue with this.  It's exactly what is supposed to happen any time something can not be accounted for in inventory that should be able to be physically counted.  The same holds true for weapons if they can't be accounted for and certain forms of intelligence equipment.   You don't let people off of the base until it's been physically verified.  The alternative being letting people out of the gate and loosing any attempt to control accountability.  Which would you prefer?

Bluntly, politics. The army bases, labs, and depots represent jobs. So putting them on a Congressman's turf wins his vote.
