Current US military spending projects to be between 1-1.5 Trillion Dollars for 2011.

If you could set our military budget, what figure would you chose?

Trillions for defense.  Not one cent for tribute.

Based on the participation- it appears that few here are too concerned with Mil spending.

I would cut the spending by 20%, so as to not shock the system, all at once.    My goal, would be to cut by 40% over the next 10 years.

Avoiding/ending wars, and removing ocupating military would be where I'd start.  M

I would gradually increase it while making changes on how it is spent, more pay raises, replacing worn out equipment, and less toys that will probably never work.
