john104 -> Leather Strap purchase? (1/28/2011 8:23:36 AM)

I would like to make my own bondage straps, but am not sure of what type of strap would be best.  A search on the web listed all sorts and types of straps.  I saw something called lagato leather (whatever that is).  Anyway, I'm wondering if any of you could give me some tips of the type of leather straps I should buy and, maybe, a recommendation of where to buy them.

Thanks!

John,

I prefer to work with either bridle or latigo as they are already dyed and well conditioned as part of the tannage process. If you are looking to do custom colors or finishes on your work you can go with veg tanned and then dye and top dress them as you wish. I've been using Zach While Leathers as my source for some time, and have always been very happy with the quality, though they are not the cheapest around. If you are just starting out and not looking to buy in quantities like shoulders, butts, backs, and sides I believe they also sell pre-cut straps in various types of leather by width, length and weight.

Thanks!  I'll give them a try.

The most economical solution would be to buy latigo leather and cut it yourself. I use  hidehouse.com as they have reasonable prices. However, they do not cut skins for sale. For latigo you have to buy half hide that is about 20 sq/ft. It is a lot and it is good for several projects. Latigo prices they have range from 3 to 5 dollars per square feet. I use industrial razor blade and a metal ruler to cut the skin. Also, good rotary cutter may do. In addition, there is a special strap cutting tool (Tandy Leather carries it). I pose as a wholesale buyer (you can pretend to be a little manufacturer), and there is  a 15% discount for wholesale (that means any amount for them). From Hidehouse you can buy online with credit card.
