I saw my first blue roan the other day.  That is a pretty horse.

You think so? I always think they're ugly. Although strawberry roans are adorable. However some of the nicest quarter horses are blue roans.

I like gun metal grey.

Horses in the US are tougher and wilder.

Wrong. Yet again.

Is there any subject on which you're not 100% clueless? Do you ever bother to check a single "fact"?

You do realizzzzze that PA is most likely pulling some legs here right...saying that..what you've said to counter seems a little unlikely as well as if you happen to have knowledge first hand to refute him. Maybe you do maybe you don't..somehow I doubt it though.

Humorous thread.

I'm a sucker for a nice flashy chestnut, with tons of white.  Or a very dark bay with no white at all.

WRONG hunky. There were NO horses for several thousnd years prior to Europeans rediscovering America.

This was news to me, but Wiki confirmed it, and here's a succinct, albeit child's, version of the history of horses in North America: http://www.texasindians.com/horse.htm

Bull.

How is it the supposed glacier wiped out the horses-  (allegedly) but not the Indians?

Aylee -> RE: Should horseriders wear seatbelts? (2/1/2011 9:08:56 PM)

They had not arrived yet. They were coming across the Bering Strait.

As I said, the two events happened around the same time. Geologic time, that is.

pahunkboy -> RE: Should horseriders wear seatbelts? (2/1/2011 9:11:14 PM)

Then the Indians walked?

MaxsGirl -> RE: Should horseriders wear seatbelts? (2/1/2011 9:13:47 PM)

Yup.

MsNightShade -> RE: Should horseriders wear seatbelts? (2/1/2011 9:30:20 PM)

I would think so, considering Ive had my professional trainers license for about 17 years. Yeah and those 2 rather large sterling silver world champion titles adorning my mantle are fairly good reminders of that. By the way, thats as an Adult. I wont bother with my show record as a junior rider. Hmmm, or maybe it was my time riding with a fairly popular equine show called Arabian Nights in FL? Nah, has to be my time spent riding with Diane Olds Rossi IE the "master of the dance". How about choosing to ride American Saddlebreds as my personal choice in horses I'd spend money on?

yeah I'd say Ive ridden a horse or 2

I keep reading the title of this thread as, should hairdressers wear seat belts [8|]

Pretty much. They also likely used dogs for pulling sleds or even some sort of draft bovine.

How did you think they got here? We are talking about hunters/gatherers.

Did you think that the aliens helped them? A magic monorail system? Pyramid crystals?

Surely this can not all be news to you.

For a start, glaciatian wasn't the only factor involved. Some suspect that Indians had a hand in the extinction as well.
And, of course, the Indians were rather less dependent on grass as a foodstuff than the horsies were, dig?

pahunkboy -> RE: Should horseriders wear seatbelts? (2/2/2011 6:43:28 AM)

The glacier only effected the Great Lakes area.   At 3000 miles wide- it did not hit the Appalachians or the Rockies.

DesFIP -> RE: Should horseriders wear seatbelts? (2/2/2011 3:11:15 PM)

At the time they walked across, there was a land bridge between Russia and Alaska. It disappeared in the ten thousand years since.
It also isn't where the glaciers were but the fact that for them to be that far south, there was a major ice age which caused changes in what could grow and how much vegetation existed to be eaten.

It's pretty funny that you think climactic change is the cause of riots in Egypt but you won't believe that climactic change caused enormous changes here. Funny in a sick way.

Some of these folks are kinda old.   They might gloat about the olden days.

Moonhead -> RE: Should horseriders wear seatbelts? (2/3/2011 4:41:10 AM)

Just out of interest: if paleontologists' accounts of the extinction, and the statements of various plains Indian tribes that refer to horses as "big dogs" and date their culture's golden age to the importation of horses and guns from Europe, just what would constitute a solid argument that horses were introduced into North America from Europe? Doctor Who taking you there in his TARDIS and showing you, perhaps?

If you can arrange it I would LOVE to go! [:)]

Sure it's the true facts about the horsies dying out you're interested in, and not that nice David Tennant? [;)] (They've replaced him now anyway, I'm afraid...)

pahunkboy -> RE: Should horseriders wear seatbelts? (2/3/2011 9:24:20 AM)

Global  warming is good for American horses.

mnottertail -> RE: Should horseriders wear seatbelts? (2/3/2011 9:29:57 AM)

And American horses asses, it would seem.
