Status: offline 		I must give another plug to te magic eraser. Those are awesome! An old favorite of mine is my kirby vaccum and a new favorite is the glade plug in. The one that has different scents. With 3 cats that are inside/outside I am forever trying to make the house NOT smell like cats. The glade plug in works great.

Status: offline 		Since the thread has taken a green-cleaning turn, i'll add that i keep Borax, coarse salt, tea tree oil and beeswax in my cleaning kit.  From an older thread, i learned that i must someday have a vapor steam cleaner.

As for why i enjoy it, i find it deeply meditative--call it "Kitchen Yoga", even.  i do get a little excited about being given a new cleaning tool or being directed to clean. Really, though, it's mostly a mental turn-on that's internal, rather than driven by external motivations.  While the end result satisfies a Dominant by organizing and tidying their space, therefore i'm happy to do, the actual act is all internal cheerfulness-building going on.

i do need recognition, too.  i can't say i'm a "no-strings" (whatever that means) housecleaner.  There's gotta' be a "D***, it's good to be home! It's nice in here!" or "Thanks for clearing the gutters--those things were disgusting!" or maybe a "I'll just be right over here, watching and reading." every so often.

P.S. Mixing beatings with cleaning would be kinda' confusing for me. i'd need to know why. Are you trying to distract me from reaching a Zen state? Sounds like a recipe for being bitten in the face.

I hate varnished hardwood floors. My parents have old parquet (200 year old house) that's unvarnished and my mom keeps it clean by giving it a beeswax finish every month and cleaning it with a damp rag in between. I love the way it makes the house smell, and if I ever have hardwood floors, that's how I'm keeping them.

I'll have to agree in the steam cleaner petmonkey. They are awesome.
I have two, one for floors and one that concentrates the steam for under edges and stuff and they are amazing.

Does anybody have a dyson ball vacuum cleaner?
I've wanted one for a while now, but am not sure if I can justify their price tag.

We have a Dyson at work. It is very maneuverable, but I've only used it once so am not able to recommend it or not.

I clean green. Soap and water, vinegar and water, vinegar and baking soda, toothbrushes, scrubbies, elbow grease. I've sexualized cleaning from time to time, but cooking is my preference for domestic service.

Artificial fragrance bothers me. I've discovered that Whole Foods Everday Shea Shampoo works great for shaving cream and is cheaper and less irritating than my previous brand, Kiss My Face.

Status: offline 		I have a DC 15 Animal.  Dysons are the very best vacuums you can possibly buy, and worth every penny.  The ball really does make a difference, and the suction is unbelievable.  When I first bought mine I vaccumed my ex-husband's (clean, just vaccumed) oriental rug and it changed color.  I've had it for five years now and I can still honestly say that it's the best $600 I have ever spent.  If this one ever dies (not likely to happen in the near future), I'll go out the same day and buy another.

It's kinda tragic really.... I'd much rather have a Dyson than a sex toy or an expensive implement...  I swear I must be wired differently....

I love my Swiffer. I have a German Short-haired Pointer, he sheds horribly and the swiffer grabs that hair up. It is a beautiful sight to behold.


PS - for some stupid reason I thought a short-haired dog wouldn't shed. I was so very very wrong.

Status: offline 		If anything I think the short haired ones shed more.  My ex-husband had a couple of pugs, and they shed more, pound for pound, than any other animal I have ever encountered.

Status: offline 		I have a Labrador/German Shepard breed and I swear she sheds half a pound a day... like for real.

I have a 1200 square foot carpeted apartment, a normal capacity bag-less vacuum cleaner, and if i vacuum EVERY day I need to empty the tank 4!!!!! times to be able to get through the whole apartment.

Last fall I was finally sick of it, and I just went ahead and shaved off her coat to a couple mm.
Right now she's allowed to keep it because of the cold, but as soon as spring hits, that coat is going again!!!

I just can't deal with the hair...

My absolute favorite find this year is an electric pressure cooker.  It makes everything nice and tender and it is so simple and easy to use.  It also keeps the food warm.  It has a saute and browning mode that is not done under pressure.  Cooking is fun and easy again.

Count me as weird then. I LOVE toothbrushes too! (it's almost an obsession)....

Oh! Saving them sounds nicer than getting cheap ones, I'll try to do it, but how do you prepare them? I wouldn't like to think that there may still be you know, the remains of someone's saliva... god, please no. Hmmm, but well, now that I come to think it, I have this hardcore bathroom formula I could use...

I even colour coordinate them for the bathrooms
Personally, I never use old ones, there are too many germs in the mouth to risk passing around, and I change them regularly.

Anyone got an easy way to clean the walls and ceilings? Seriously, I like to completely clean house at least twice a year, from top to bottom literally. But the hours to wash the walls and climbing ladders to do the ceiling is feeling pretty daunting at this point.

Any advice?

I'm quite tall, so I usually can make it just by using a squirt bottle with cleaner to slightly wet the ceiling (not too much you don't want it dripping) and then use a sponge on an extension arm, you know, like they use for windows and stuff.

I usually go once with the soap bottle, a wipe with the sponge and then a squirt with a plain water bottle and a dry cloth to dry. For the drying I stand on a chair which allowed me to easily reach ceilings (but I'm quite tall).

I have this thing about always going over surfaces cleaned with soap or other (even natural) detergents with just plain water, as the idea of leaving soapy residue around irks me for some reason...


I used to love toothbrushes too, until I got my concentrated steam cleaner and found out HOW MUCH icky stuff toothbrushes leave behind...
Now I hardly ever use them and will bring out the steam cleaner instead... it makes me feel better too knowing that the steam kills bugs, especially in the bathroom.

I don't think I could again clean toilets without it.
