Engineering is done based on the worst expected outcome. Overdesigning results in extra costs.

The cold this week has been worse than projected conditions. It sounds like it's worse than anything ever seen.

The bad weather had two effects:
1. The demand for power was higher than anticipated.
2. Weather conditions knocked out delivery in some places.

Getting power from another country is fine. Their power is just as good as ours.

Basically, the outages are due to "shit happens".

How much did Texas buy from a third world country?  Because I know real simple shit escapes your notice, but Texas has got a pretty hefty gas and oil industry.

Why did we know that summer and winter was coming?  Well, you see, we discovered seasons and timekeeping some thousands of years ago, probably before the wheel.

I wasn't aware that "the extreme left" was in favor of building any power plants.
They couldn't even build wind farms in Cape Cod Bay for years due to (two) senators on the extreme left who said it would, "ruin their yachting."
Senators are in office to "serve" The People, not to have "power" over them.

I wasn't aware that the extreme right was in favor either.  Seems to me that Texas was Ws home state, and they are extreme right republicans in control down there,  and there was republican control 6 years at the federal end.

So I have to wonder if they are hanging out in the DFW airport bathrooms with each other and not doing  the states buisness.
