~Fast Reply~ I think musicians on the whole feel a need to try to "shock" people. Rihanna with her racy videos, rappers with the lyrics, Lady Gaga with her crazy outfits. Shit, Madonna played the same game back in the 80s. For some, it's necessary because the music isn't good enough to stand on it's own, for others who knows why they feel the need. These days if you can get people talking, like this video did, that seems to be more important than the actual music. Rihanna is not wildly talented, she has a mediocre voice, but she gets publicity and that attention makes her a star. I find it a sad commentary on the music industry as a whole

I have an issue with the video and the song because Rihanna is just such a mess. She has a history of domestic violence, doesn't write her own music. Kinda worry that she doesn't know what's going on most of the time. Considering how often I fear when my partner and I are just messing around a little bit when in the vanilla world that they'll think I'm a battered woman, the role confusion Rihanna projects really upsets me. Actually, it should be stated it isn't even a fear, one acquaintance of our actually accused him of DV. Which was extremely upsetting for both of us, and on mine dis-empowering. Lady Gaga is a different entity, the chick is likely actually kinky. She has a lot of S&M references in songs, and did an all out kinbaku shoot in Japan. If I want kinky pop I'll listen to "Teeth".

Fast Reply:- I think there's a fair chance many of those countries banned it because they can't stand Rihanna.

this is truly terrible. and i find it interesting that what people see in this video they think is bad, but in the lifestyle most of what she has in her video seems pretty vanilla to me.

It's like they created the music from a 14 year old girl raised on sparkly vamps and then created the video from the sexual fantasy's of a frustrated 15 year old boy with a habit of looking up bad porn at 3 am on a wendsday night.

She's back in the news again, this time, she has the right all upset about her new Video, Man Down, where she sings a song about an abused women who kills her abuser. I think I'm starting to like her.

Rhianna is trying to work through her stuff. Her advantage she can put it all on a video for all to see. Thus this isn't about S&M but about unfinished business she has with her ex whom I believe she has gone back too?????

Its tune is good I think, I love the tune but I think the rest of the words confuse people about S&M. When I got into it, I was lucky enough to find the right sort of Dom for me! I think that Rhianna is making out that S&M is only for people that are really, really into pain, crying and thats sorry, bollox. Some are but that still doesn't mean all of us! I don't mind a bit of Pain but not pain thats extremely hard. I've seen people crying from the amount of Pain, they've been given! Others that are viewing are Laughing, I hate to say it but I hate seeing people cry from Pain! I think the tune should be kept just change some of the words and its grand!

Rhianna has invented a brand new genre in music.... she has opened the eyes of those vanilla. She's bad, and she's definitely good at it.
