Is it only for gay men? Is it generally looked down upon by the LGBTQ community if straight males or females are sporting them?

I don't think the gay community can necessarily claim exclusive rights to it but I wouldn't want to piss people off either. And I'm curious to know if you've met people who aren't identified as LGBQTIA but have knowledge of the code. Does it still fly under the radar as in years past?

If you're straight, have you ever used it to indicate your S/M preferences?

Yes, I've flagged at leather events.  I've never had anyone complain that a straight woman shouldn't be doing so.

Leather protocols are very specific about people being treated the same, whether they are straight or gay, male or female.  I am a senior leatherman to those who have less experience than I do.  That's regardless of My gender or sexual orientation.

I flag on an almost daily basis, and especially leather events and club nights. No one has ever said anything to me about it except "hey whats that one mean?"

Flagging was very common in the Lesbian S/M community, and I still flag when I go to leather events.  I did find thought, that the colors for men did sometimes have different meaning for the women, so it's not a substitute for discussing likes/dislikes....
