With all the fat threads that get started, derailed, etc., overall in your real life experiences, do you find most fat people to be...

In my experience I can't say that the heavier people I know are more likely to be unhappy or not...I know on both sides enough happy and enough miserable folks.
IMO it doesn't just depent on the weight but also on other contributing factors of happyness, such as work satisfaction, socialisation, etc.
Reflecting back with my jojo weight in the last years my mood always dependet whom I had to deal with. When I was with my ex or friends it did not matter to me what weight I was as I was happy with myself and my surrounding....however when I had to work with certain folks or spend time with my parents then my mood dropped rappidly.....though again, that didn't really had to do with the weight itself. Therefore I chose the last option as none of the others did fit.

Thats right.   You are only as fat as you feel.
