Submotive -> Unconditional Love - Is it possible? (5/3/2006 11:24:44 AM)

I’ve heard the term unconditional love many times in my life. But what does that mean? Personally I don’t know that unconditional love is truly possible since even animals have expectations that need to be met for them to love us. Tolerance and acceptance is one thing, but can we truly love without conditions or expectations? Isn’t the very nature of D/s and M/s based on meeting conditions and expectations? I can commit to not leaving another or abandoning them but even then I cannot expect this of myself with absolutely no conditions.

Would really like to hear your thoughts and experiences.

Uncontional love is absolutely possible.

Unconditional relationships however, are not.

Thank you, LA. This is a concept that I've been stuggling to put into words. I've been trying too hard; you're words are perfect.

I've always thought unconditional love is only possible in those situations where you love something that is larger than yourself. Those who sacrifice their lives to causes they believe in, for instance.

I love Sir, but to love him unconditionally would mean being able to stand, without heartbreak, his walking away from me tomorrow. I couldn't. Even our pets don't love us unconditionally. My cat would probably stop with the kitty-kisses and start with the murdering me in my sleep if I were to forget her salmon treats at the store.

Brilliantly said but not completely true.  Occassionally, there is that relationship with no conditions influenced by nothing but unconditional love.  It can be torturous but they do exist.  And i am not talking between immediate family relations although there is that as well.

Phoenixandnika -> RE: Unconditional Love - Is it possible? (5/3/2006 11:45:28 AM)

Unconditional love is possible
Unconditional relationships are also possible
Though I think it is human nature to want to play conditions or personal standards on relationships. Even parents struggle with "loving unconditionally".

Well, unconditional love is very possible. I believe it happens everyday. Being a true slave, I would do anything for my master, trusting that he wouldn't ask me to do something silly like end my life. I love him enough to where I trust him with my life and more, and I serve happily, knowing he is guiding me in being a better slave, a better person, and better to fufill his desire. I fufill my own when I fufill his. I hope this helps some.

Yup-what she said.

Love with conditions isn't love.

Phoenixandnika -> RE: Unconditional Love - Is it possible? (5/3/2006 12:03:28 PM)

What about conditions placed upon a person or relationship out of love. Example, You have to stay clean and sober in order for me to be with you?

good point but not how i interpreted this particular poster.  that is a different catagory and it is conditional love... not that it is wrong in that particular case, but unconditional love will not and does not condemn if that particular condition is not met.

First you have to define *love*.

  Unconditional love is posssible.
Personally tho I see it as  how a parent loves a child.  In relationships, no matter how loving, no matter how perfect there is always that line  that can not be crossed. For some it would be a cheating spouse for others it could be lying or even a drug habit. But parents, the good ones anyway.  Even if they are  taking the hard stand with tough love they still love their child unconditionally.  And are there for them when they are needed the most.

Unconditional means without bias or judgment no matter what you have done.

I think unconditional love in relationships is possible, however rare. Unconditional love is based on the connection you feel to all living things that isnt dependent on whats going on. Its the invisible thread that binds all things together, its the understanding that whatever you do to another is done to yourself..there is no division....its indescribable yet the most powerful force in the universe.

I would hate to think there is not one person on the planet who has not realised this kind of love and who is incapable of expressing it in the world...to think its not possible would be too much of a bummer of a thought for me to embrace.

My thoughts on that are that though they may place conditions on staying with you does not mean that they would stop loving you. I have ended relationships and I still continue to love them dearly. I just knew that the relationship as it was, was not working for either of us.

Dustyn -> RE: Unconditional Love - Is it possible? (5/3/2006 5:29:13 PM)

Unconditional love is very real... look at a parent's relationship with a child... well, generally, at least...

I have complete faith that those in my life will make the best choices for themselves as they see fit... I do not have to agree with them, or even endorse the ideas that they are having for me to give them my complete and utter backing... it's for that person, and that person alone, to make the decision to do this, or do that, or vice versa, and to find out whether it was the right idea or the wrong one... sometimes I have been right and I have been wrong about the choices my friends, family and lovers have made in the last 30 years... doesn't mean that for even a fraction of a second that I didn't give them my complete and total support in what they were doing...

Best way to learn is to just dive right on in and figure out what is what and where it goes... best way to be a friend is to stand there and support them the whole way through... but that's just me...

Thank you all for your comments. i have a different perception and much to ponder now. This helps me a lot in my devotion to Master too.

puella -> RE: Unconditional Love - Is it possible? (5/3/2006 6:52:30 PM)

Yes, it can.  But in and of itself, it is not worth anything much at all.
