Handing the Republican party over to the religious right, to do with as they pleased
Wasting billions on having military engineers try to execute a bunch of half baked ideas cooked up by three science fiction writers
"Ketchup is a vegetable"
His other half fucking Frank Sinatra behind his back
Giving Saddam Insane all of those WMDs and turning a blind eye when he used them on the Kurds rather than the Iranians
The Miracle of the monster deficit
Blaming everything that went wrong in the country for eight years on Carter
Tax cuts
Paying more attention to his wife's astrologer than to his advisors
Seriously upsetting Brooooooooce Springsteen by misusing one of his songs as propaganda for the sort of thing Brooooooce was taking the piss about

“We cannot buy our security, our freedom from the threat of the bomb,” said Reagan, “by committing an immorality so great as saying to a billion human beings now enslaved behind the Iron Curtain, ‘Give up your dreams of freedom because to save our own skins, we're willing to make a deal with your slave masters.’ "

So remind me which country's governments have been propping up Mubarak's regime for the last thirty years?
Reagan's bitchng about the evil empire looks like a pretty rank display of hypocrisy when you look at the numbers of lunatics and psychopaths he spent his term in office supporting. (At least one of whom, it's since been decided, was ousted purely because of his fuckawful civil rights record.) And that's without even getting into the attempts to oust elected governments in central America...

Not that you can honestly lay every deed of every dictatorial regime exclusively at Reagans feet as Obama even supported the current Egyptian regime until he saw which way the wind was blowing there, but regarding Reagans foreign policy, what alternatives were there?

Reagan watched as Carter facilitated  the fall of the relatively moderate Shah of Iran before the rise of the radical Ayatollahs there, which was legitimately believed to be a preview at the time of a potential chain reaction throughout the region. So today we have to ask ourselves, are the Iranian people better off under the current extremists than they were under the Shah?

We were at (cold) war with the Soviet Union, which was an expansionist global bully actively seeking to enslave every nation it possibly could, and Reagan won that war despite fierce Democrat opposition to his lofty, almost unbelievably optimistic goal of winning it. Allies had to be cultivated and hard choices had to be made in regard to a few of our allies but the regimes they opposed (as history has proven) were certainly no friends of the masses.

They were nothing more than a re-branding of dictator Somoza's national guard, notorious for the atrocities they inflicted on the Nicaraguan people. How about training and equipping those death squads in El Salvador? And let's not forget the invasion of Grenada. And, of course, Star Wars. A lot of archaeologists in the Southwest got new vehicles out of that boondoggle. Giant, ground-based laser deflected upward to a "combat mirror"...oh well...I got a new CRX and a chance to do a top-speed motorcycle run on the Laser sites access road at the Missile Range. I liked Ronnie's story about the WW II bomber pilot who went down with the ship rather than abandon a badly wounded young crewman. But it didn't really happen...except in a movie. What else? Oh...trees create pollution.

Definitely one of the all-time worst presidents. A war criminal, actually. One good thing, though: like Franco, he is still dead.

Ponder tho- that one can not live in the past.  Time and place move on.   I used to be all for reliving the 80s-- but that would deny me of living in 2011.

I loath many things corporate-  music comes to mind.  

So find your niche and be happy. A tall order if one is fixated and stuck in the 1980s.

Not what I said: I just pointed out that he had no problem with any evil regime that wasn't associated with the soviet union, so his bullshit about reducing international diplomacy to a question of goodies and baddies was stood on sand from the off. If you're going to start justifying stuff on the grounds of a regime being evil, then you've waived the right to pick and choose which evil regimes you go after, never mind providing evil regimes with chemical weapons to commit mass murder of their countrymen.
